Welcome to our first ABL Report about our Toronto Blue Jays farmhands playing down under!

 

 

As you may know, the Blue Jays sent four players down to play for the Canberra Cavalry this winter and here’s what they’ve done over the first week of play.

 

Returnee Jack Murphy, a catcher who made it as high as the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons this season, is feasting on ABL pitching. He went six for 14 with three walks and three strikeouts on the way to a .429 batting average. He has one double and three RBI so far.

 

 

Shortstop Shane Opitz is hitting a clean .250 with four singles in 16 at bats. He hasn’t taken a walk and has scored four times and has two RBI to go with two strikeouts.

 

 

Second baseman Jon Berti is hitting just .231: three for 13. Berti has walked once and scored four times and has a double among those three hits. He’s also stolen two bases without being caught.

 

Outfielder (and B.C. native) Michael Crouse has just three singles in 14 at bats (.214) but is really making them count, with six RBI already. Crouse has scored twice and stolen a base but has struck out six times and walked just once.
