Able to focus on baseball, the Blue Jays’ minor league teams in action on Wednesday were all successful with the Dunedin Blue Jays sweeping a double header with the Tampa Yankees to win their series and become the Florida State League co-champions and the Vancouver Canadians getting off to a great start in their series with the Spokane Indians.

 

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Tampa Yankees 1

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays got a strong all around game, beating the Tampa Yankees 4-1 to even their best-of-three game series over who would be the Florida State League co-champion. Jordan Romano started for the Blue Jays and, while he didn’t strike anyone out, he allowed only one run on five hits and one walk over 6 2/3 innings for the win. Kirby Snead finished up, giving up just one hit and striking out three for the save.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was on his game, going 3/4 with a home run and two runs in the win while Cavan Biggio was 2/3 with a home run, a walk, three RBI and a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Tampa Yankees 3

 

In the second half of their double-header, the Dunedin Blue Jays rallied in the top of the ninth inning to overcome a two-all tie and eventually beat the Tampa Yankees 5-3 to secure the title of Florida State League co-champion. The ninth inning rally featured an RBI single by Jake Thomas and a two-RBI double by D.J. Davis, accounting for the three runs. Connor Panas also had two solo home runs, going 2/4 while Edward Olivares was 2/3 with a walk and a run and D.J. Davis was 2/4 with the double and two RBI, stealing a base.

T.J. Zeuch allowed just one unearned run over four innings, giving up just a hit and a walk with one strikeout. Conor Fisk gave up a run on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts in 3 1/3 innings and Zach Jackson earned the win, pitching 1 2/3 innings and giving up a run on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Spokane Indians 1

 

The Vancouver Canadians (1-0) held on to win Game 1 of their best-of-three series with the Spokane Indians, beating them 2-1 at Nat Bailey Stadium despite Spokane being the home team. Logan Warmoth hit a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to provide the Canadian’s scoring and he was 2/4 on the day. Reggie Pruitt was 1/3 with a walk, as was Chavez Young.

Nate Pearson was impressive on the mound, striking out 10 and allowing just one hit and walking four in a dominant performance. Brayden Bouchey pitched a perfect fifth, striking out two and Travis Bergen went three innings, allowing two hits and striking out two, earning the win. William Ouellette got the save, making things a bit dicey in the ninth, allowing a run but getting out of the game with the win.
