The Arizona Fall League isn’t the only off-season league that the Blue Jays farmhands are participating in. Four Blue Jays are playing for the Canberra Cavalry in the Australian Baseball League while Sean Nolin and Mickey Storey are playing for Leones del Escogido in the Dominican Winter League.

Let’s get to the Dominican first. I’ve actually been to Dominican Winter League games but unfortunately, it was 25 years ago although I have vivid memories of meeting Manny Lee after the game in the team dressing room.

In his first start in the Dominican League, Sean Nolin pitched 3 1/3 innings and gave up one run facing a Tigres del Licey that featured the Texas Rangers’ stud prospect Jurickson Profar. Nolin was working out of jams all night, walking three and giving up four hits, and was helped out by his defense who threw out a runner at the plate to end the first inning.

Mickey Storey

Teammate Mickey Storey pitched to four batters, getting three out and allowing a runner to reach first on an error by third baseman, ex-major-leaguer Fernando Tatis. Also playing for Escogido is first baseman and former Buffalo Bison Mauro Gomez who went 2 for 4 with a double.

Ricardo Nanita

Playing for Aguilas Cibaenas is Andy Fermin who is 0 for 1 in his only Dominican at bat. Moises Sierra is 0 for 3 with a walk in a game with Gigantes del Cibao. Oliver Dominguez and Ricardo Nanita are both listed on the massive roster for Toros del Este and only Nanita has played, going 1 for 7 with two strikeouts in two games.

Luis Jimenez

First baseman Luis Jimenez is playing with the Cardenales de Lara in the Venezuelan Winter League although he hasn’t played yet. 18-year-old Jonathan Torres, a pitcher who had 12 2/3 innings of work in the Dominican Summer League has given up three runs (two earned) in one and a third innings of work for Leones del Caracas. Finally, reliever Tyson Brummett signed on with Tiburones de la Guaira and has not pitched yet.
