It was a clean sweep with the major league teams and the minor league teams with all five clubs losing on Friday night. I was at Rogers Centre catching an exciting game in Toronto and trying to follow along on Twitter and the great MiLB First Pitch app.
Buffalo Bisons 3, Charlotte Knights 5
Anthony Gose hit his first home run of the season, sparking a three-run rally in the ninth but it wasn’t enough as the Bisons fell to the Charlotte Knights. Ricky Romero only lasted three innings, walking five batters and allowing all five Charlotte runs. Rob Rasmussen and John Stilson each threw two scoreless innings with Bobby Korecky finishing things off. In addition to Gose’s 2/4 game, Kevin Pillar edged ever closer to the .300 mark (.299) with a pair of hits and Jared Goedert had another two hits.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Portland Sea Dogs 5
Deck McGuire struggled to another short outing, allowing four runs (all unearned) in 5 1/3 on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Brian Johnson was excellent for Portland, only allowing two runs and striking out eight in six innings. Gabe Jacobo had two hits in the loss including a double.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Clearwater Threshers 2
The Dunedin Blue Jays wasted a strong outing by Jesse Hernandez who went six innings, allowing just one run (despite nine hits) and the D-Jays could only get five hits on the night. Two hits came from K.C. Hobson (who drove in the team’s only run) and Dalton Pompey, who hit a single and a double but was caught stealing for the first time this season.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 7
Kevin Ziomek threw a very good game against the Lugnuts and they were only able to score three runs on seven hits. Matthew Dean went 2/4 and Derrick Loveless, Justin Atkinson and Santiago Nessy each hit doubles. On the mound, Chase De Jong went five innings, allowing three runs on four hits and one walk while striking out only one batter. Alonzo Gonzalez allowed another three runs in two innings but struck out three with only one walk.

Buffalo Bisons (18-14)
Kyle Drabek takes the mound for the Bisons against Dylan Axelrod. Axelrod, a 28-year-old righty, hasn’t been good this season, pitching to a 6.11 ERA in 28 innings. He has struck out over a batter per inning (30) with decent control (11 walks). Kyle Drabek hasn’t been all that great this season, allowing six home runs in 29 2/3 innings and he’s going to look to keep the ball in the park. Catch the game at 7:00 PM ET on MiLB TV.
New Hamsphire Fisher Cats (14-19)
New Hampshire continues their series against the Portland Sea Dogs, sending Scott Copeland to the mound against Keith Couch. Copeland’s last start was an eight-inning gem against Binghamton while Couch has been very good, posting a 4-0 record with a 2.45 ERA in 33 innings with 26 strikeouts and only six walks. The game is on MiLB TV at 1:00 PM ET.
Dunedin Blue Jays (25-9)
Saturday is Daniel Norris Day in Clearwater as he puts his 3-0 record and 0.63 ERA up against the Threshers and Canada’s Ethan Stewart who has been solid this season with a 3.23 ERA in 39 innings. Stewart’s strikeout to walk ratio is pretty undesirable though, with 23 walks and 19 strikeouts so far this year. This game is on radio/internet at 6:30 PM ET.
Lansing Lugnuts (16-18)
The Lugnuts see Tom Robson take the hill against Chad Green and the West Michigan Whitecaps for a 7:00 PM ET on MiLB TV (and internet and radio). Robson is coming off his best start of the year, racking up eight strikeouts and allowing just two hits against Fort Wayne on Monday. Green’s last start was on Sunday against the Lugnuts and he was very good, allowing just one run on six hits and two walks in seven innings.
