A 1-3 day for the Blue Jays’ minor league teams was in store on Saturday although two of the three losses (and the one win) were all by just one run and not settled until late in the game with the two losses coming in extra innings.

Buffalo Bisons 0, Norfolk Tides 1

In yet another extra-inning game, the Buffalo Bisons fell to the Norfolk Tides when the Tides scored the game’s first run in the bottom of the 11th inning. Buffalo starter Randy Wolf had another excellent outing, allowing just four hits and one walk over seven innings with three strikeouts, bringing his season’s ERA down to just 1.00. Rob Rasmussen provided two innings of one-hit relief before Bobby Korecky allowed the game-winning run in his second inning of work. The batters were held off the scoreboard despite two hits each from Matt Hague (hitting .333 on the season) and Brad Glenn (hitting .162).

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats jumped out to an early lead over the Trenton Thunder and almost let one slip away before Emilio Guerrero‘s first Double-A home run restored the lead. Taylor Cole allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings with five strikeouts while Cory Burns surrendered the other two over two innings. Danny Barnes actually blew the save after letting the inherited runner from Burns score but earned the win when Guerrero went yard. Scott Barnes picked up the save with a scoreless inning.

Jon Berti raised his batting average to .290 with a single and a double while Dwight Smith, Jr. was 2/3 with a single, a double and a walk, adding an outfield assist. Guerrero had a single in addition to his home run while K.C. Hobson went yard with his third of the season, driving in three.

L.B. Dantzler

It was not a good day to be a Dunedin pitcher as the pitching staff got rocked for 11 runs, most incurred in the first three innings of the game. Justin Shafer only managed to get one out, allowing seven runs (five earned) while Alonzo Gonzalez took the brunt of another six runs (four earned) over the next 3 2/3 innings before Jeremy Gabryszwski got through three innings, only allowing one run with three strikeouts. Jimmy Cordero struck out another two over two innings but gave up a solo home run.

The offense had nine hits but only one run as L.B. Dantzler was 2/4 with a double and Derrick Loveless and Dickie Joe Thon each had a pair of hits.

Two members of the “Soul Patrol” continued their torrid hitting with Anthony Alford going 2/3 with a double and three walks while Jonathan Davis (a.k.a., J.D.) had a pair of hits, a stolen base, two outfield assists and an RBI.
