May 9, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

Dwight Smith, Jr.

The Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates had a rough day on Tuesday, getting only one win from the powerhouse Luggernauts who steamrolled over Clinton in Midwest League action.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Syracuse Chiefs 8

 

After a solid start from Jarrett Grube, the Buffalo Bisons’ bullpen let the club down, allowing the four-run differential in the seventh inning to give the Syracuse Chiefs the 8-4 win. Grube allowed four runs on nine hits and one walk with five strikeouts over six innings but reliever Jeff Beliveau gave up four runs in the seventh, allowing four hits (including a three-run home run) and a walk with two strikeouts. John Stilson threw a perfect eighth.

Dwight Smith, Jr. had himself a day, going 3/5 with a double, two RBI and two runs to lead the Bisons. Raffy Lopez walked and hit a double and Christian Lopes was 1/4 with a double and a walk, scoring a run. Rowdy Tellez drove in a run and was 1/4.

Roster Notes: Mike Bolsinger was promoted to the Blue Jays.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Hartford Yard Goats 5

 

Emilio Guerrero

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost their fourth game in a row and their seventh of their last eight, falling 5-3 to the Hartford Yard Goats. Shane Dawson surrendered four runs over six innings, giving up seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts and Dusty Isaacs was touched for a run on two hits and a walk over the final two frames.

Ryan McBroom was 2/4, as was Emilio Guerrero who had a double and two runs while Mike Reeves was 2/4 with a double and an RBI.

Roster Notes: Newly acquired catcher Patrick Cantwell was placed on the 7-day DL and Ryan Hissey was promoted from Lansing.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Tampa Yankees 2

 

Jordan Romano

The Dunedin Blue Jays wasted another strong start from Canadian Jordan Romano as the offense could only get two hits against the Tampa Yankees in a 2-0 loss. Romano went seven innings, giving up eight hits and two walks and just one run, while striking out seven. Danny Young finished the game, allowing an insurance run in the eighth on two hits.

Danny Jansen and D.J. Davis had one hit each.

Lansing Lugnuts 11, Clinton LumberKings 6

 

Edward Olivares

The Lansing Lugnuts kept their offense rolling, scoring 11 runs and defeating the Clinton LumberKings by an 11-6 score. Edward Olivares led the way with a 3/6 game, hitting two doubles, scoring four runs and stealing a base. Bo Bichette also had three hits, going 3/4 with a walk, an RBI and two runs. Vladimir Guerrero drove in two runs, going 2/5 with a run while Joshua Palacios was 1/5 with a  triple, two RBI and a run. Christian Williams also drove in a pair of runs, going 1/4 with a run.

Andy Ravel had the start and picked up his third win, going seven innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Daniel Lietz allowed a run on two hits in the eighth and Jackson McClelland, getting some work in despite the lack of a save situation, allowed an unearned run in his inning of work.

Roster Notes: Ryan Hissey was promoted to New Hampshire and Andres Sotillo was sent to Lansing from extended spring training.
