The Blue Jays’ minor leaguers had a 3-1 day on Monday, getting outstanding pitching in three of their four games.

Buffalo Bisons 3, Syracuse Chiefs 0

 

The Buffalo Bisons got an early lead and followed that with tremendous pitching, two-hitting the Durham Bulls, inducing 15 strikeouts and beating them 3-0. Arnold Leon started and allowing just one hit and one walk in five innings, striking out seven. Chris Leroux struck out six in three innings, allowing just one hit while David Aardsma struck out a pair in his inning, earning his fourth save of the year.

The Bisons had 10 hits including three from Jesus Montero (3/4, 2B, 2 RBI) and Domonic Brown was 2/3 with a double, a walk, and two runs. Matt Dominguez also had a pair of hits, scoring once while Dalton Pompey was 1/4.

Roster Notes: Ryan Tepera was promoted to the Blue Jays after Brett Cecil was placed on Paternity Leave.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Portland Sea Dogs 1

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats also got two runs in the first and a very well-pitched game to come out on top of the Portland Sea Dogs 2-1. Dwight Smith, Jr. was 2/4 with a double and an RBI while Matt Dean drove in a run with a single. Jon Berti scored after hitting a triple.

Luis Santos got the start, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts for the win. John Stilson and Wil Browning each threw a scoreless inning to finish the game with Browning earning his fourth save of the season.

Roster Notes: Derrick Loveless was promoted from Dunedin.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Clearwater Threshers 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays rode a couple of home runs and more fine pitching as they three-hit the Clearwater Threshers in a 6-2 victory. Richard Urena (2/5, HR) and Ryan McBroom (1/3, HR, SF, 2 RBI) went deep for the Fisher Cats and Mike Reeves had three hits (including a double) and two RBI to lead the way. Dickie Joe Thon was 2/4 with a double, a walk and a run whle D.J. Davis was 2/4 with a double and a triple and two runs scored.

Justin Shafer returned to action, going 4 1/3 innings without giving up a hit but allowed a run on four walks with two strikeouts. Carlos Ramirez allowed one of Shafer’s two inherited runners to score but wasn’t charged with a run himself, giving up three hits and a walk in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Tim Mayza pitched to four batters and struck out three of them in 1 1/3 innings and Jose Fernandez threw the ninth, allowing an unearned run on two walks.

Roster Notes: Derrick Loveless was promoted to New Hampshire and Justin Shafer came off the DL.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Bowling Green Hot Rods 7

 

Sean Reid-Foley returned to action but the Lansing Lugnuts’ bullpen couldn’t hold on after he left the game in a 7-2 loss to the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Reid-Foley went just three innings, needing 70 pitches and throwing just 31 strikes, walking four but striking out four with two hits allowed. Conor Fisk gave up six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks but struck out five in three innings. Gustavo Pierre finished the game, throwing two innings and allowing his first run of the year on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

The Fisher Cats got only five hits including two solo home runs, one each from Andrew Guillotte (1/3, 2 BB, HR), and Ryan Hissey (2/4, HR)

Roster Notes: Sean Reid-Foley was activated off the DL.
