The Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates were 3-1 on Friday, winning from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on down with the Dunedin Blue Jays’ and Lansing Lugnuts’ pitching staffs throwing shutouts in the process.

 

Buffalo Bisons 0, Syracuse Chiefs 5

 

Former Blue Jay and Bison Aaron Laffey continues his outstanding 2016 and held the Buffalo Bisons to just two hits and two walks as the Syracuse Chiefs shutout the Bisons 5-0. Scott Diamond was the starter for the Herd and he was almost as good as Laffey, throwing seven innings of one-run, seven-hit ball, striking out two. The Chiefs got to Pat Venditte in the eighth, scoring three times off of him despite him striking out the side. David Aardsma allowed the fifth run in the ninth inning, giving up a solo home run.

David Adams had a single and a walk while Matt Dominguez had the only other hit for Buffalo.

Roster Notes: Andy Burns was promoted to Toronto with Ryan Tepera coming back to Buffalo.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 8, Hartford Yard Goats 6

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got two runs in the ninth to take and keep their lead over the Hartford Yard Goats, defeating the first place team by an 8-6 score. Shane Dawson returned from the DL with five solid innings, allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts. Bo Schultz threw a scoreless sixth, walking one and striking out two while Luis Santos pitched a 1-2-3 seventh but couldn’t retire anyone in the eighth, giving up two singles, a walk and another runner due to an error, scoring two runs and leaving two more on for John Stilson who allowed them both to come in to score. Santos was eventually charged with four runs (three earned) in one inning. John Stilson pitched the rest of the inning without allowing a run of his own, earning both a blown save and a win while Wil Browning got the save with a one-hit ninth, striking out two.

The Fisher Cats struck for four runs in the fourth inning, thanks in part to a two-run double from Christian Lopes and RBI singles from K.C. Hobson and Jorge Flores. Hobson added a two-run home run in the fifth inning, giving him a 2/4 game with three RBI and two runs. Christian Lopes had the two RBI and Dwight Smith, Jr. was 1/5 with two RBI. Roemon Fields was 1/4 with a walk and a stolen base and was instrumental in getting the ninth-inning rally started by getting on via an error with two outs. Jon Berti singled and Dwight Smith drove home both of them with his single. Berti finished the night 1/3 with two walks, two runs and three stolen bases.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Daytona Tortugas 0

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays pitched their way to their second consecutive win over the Daytona Tortugas, getting a shutout from the pitching staff in a 2-0 victory. Brad Allen, who contributed to a combined, seven-inning no hitter on April 23, was even better on Friday as he threw 5 2/3 innings of one-hit, one-walk ball, striking out five. Jose Fernandez finished the sixth and pitched the seventh, giving up one hit and striking out two while Tim Mayza continues to dominate, throwing two innings of one-hit ball, striking out two and lowering his ERA to 0.53 while picking up his third save in the process.

The offense was quiet but Ryan McBroom had a pair of hits, going 2/4 with a double while Richard Urena drove in a run with a triple, also coming around to score. Anthony Alford was 1/4 with a run and Mike Reeves was 1/2 with a double and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Quad Cities River Bandits 0

 

The Lansing Lugnuts continue to own the Quad Cities River Bandits’ bats, throwing their second consecutive shutout in a 6-0 win. Francisco Rios struck out 10 batters in just 5 2/3 innings, giving up only one hit and three walks in an outstanding night. Josh DeGraaf surrendered two hits with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings and Colton Turner threw another scoreless inning, giving up a hit and striking out two.

Andrew Guillotte had another great day at the plate, going 3/5 with a double, two RBI, a stolen base and a run while Juan Kelly had a big night, hitting a double and a home run with two RBI. Josh Almonte was 2/3 with a double and a run and is climbing out of the hole his batting average was in with a slow start. Connor Panas and Aaron Attaway were both 1/3 with a run and a walk.
