The Buffalo Bisons split their double header with Rochester while the Lansing Lugnuts were the only other team to win on a 2-3 day for the Blue Jays’ minor league affiliates.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Rochester Red Wings 5

 

The Buffalo Bisons dropped the opener of their double header 5-3 against the Rochester Red Wings on Wednesday. Starter Jarrett Grube allowed four runs in the second inning and the Bisons’ offense wasn’t able to overcome that deficit. Grube wound up allowing four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings with four strikeouts, taking the loss. Murphy Smith threw a 1-2-3 sixth but gave up a solo home run to lead off the seventh and Chad Girodo retired the next three batters to finish the game.

Mike Ohlman launched a home run, his fifth of the year, going 2/3 with a walk and two RBI as the DH while Rowdy Tellez was showing signs of breaking out of his slump, going 2/3 off left-handed starter David Hurlbut for a 2/4 day with a double.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Rochester Red Wings 1

 

In Game 2 of their double header with the Rochester Red Wings, the Buffalo Bisons got a strong outing from Casey Lawrence on their way to a 4-1 win to split the twin bill. Lawrence’s run was unearned, dropping his overall ERA with the Bisons to just 0.90 as he allowed five hits and one walk over five innings without striking anyone out. Matt Dermody allowed two hits in a scoreless sixth and Leonel Campos earned his second save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Ian Parmley was 2/3 with the Bisons’ only two RBI while Rowdy Tellez was 1/2 with a walk.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Reading Fightin’ Phils 3

 

The double-figure mark in wins has been eluding the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they dropped another game to the Reading Fightin Phils, 3-2. Shane Dawson was a hard-luck loser for the Fisher Cats, tossing six innings of four-hit ball, giving up just three runs (two earned) with three strikeouts. Justin Shafer finished the game, giving up a hit over two innings with three strikeouts.

The Fisher Cats had just four hits including doubles from Tim Lopes and Jonathan Davis while Anthony Alford was on base twice with a single, an RBI and a walk and Raffy Lopez had two walks.

Roster Notes: Catcher Mike Reeves was promoted from Dunedin while Reese McGuire was placed on the DL.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Tampa Yankees 5

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays (15-12) did all of their scoring in the fourth inning, losing 3-1 to the Tampa Yankees. Facing Yankees #20 prospect Ian Clarkin, the Blue Jays could only manage the one run with Lane Thomas grounding out to bring home a Max Pentecost double. Pentecost was 2/4 with a double and a single while Andrew Guillotte was on base twice with a hit and a walk, stealing his 10th base of the season.

Conor Fisk had a solid outing for the Blue Jays, allowing three runs on seven hits and one walk over six innings with three strikeouts. The bullpen finished the game with a flourish, getting a scoreless inning each from Josh DeGraaf, Adonys Cardona (with two strikeouts) and Tom Robson.

Roster Notes: Catcher Mike Reeves was promoted to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Owen Spiwak was added to the roster from extended spring training.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 9, Peoria Chiefs 7

 

The Sluggin’ Lugnuts (14-11) turned the tables on the Peoria Chiefs in a morning game in the Midwest League with a 9-7 win. While Peoria came away with a win on Tuesday, the Lugnuts’ offense slugged away to score nine runs, overcoming four defensive errors to pick up the win. Joshua Palacios led the hit parade, going 3/5 with an RBI and two runs, adding his first stolen base of the season while Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 2/4 with his fourth home run of the season, driving in two. Edward Olivares continues to swing a hot bat, adding two hits, a single and a double, going 2/4 with two RBI and two runs, stealing his fifth base of the season. Yeltsin Gudino also had two hits including a double, driving in two runs and scoring once. Jake Thomas was on base three times, going 1/3 with a double and two walks.

Andy Ravel made the start for the Lugnuts and was gone after three innings, giving up five runs on three hits and three walks. Tayler Saucedo added two scoreless innings while Geno Encina was tagged for two runs (one earned) on three hits including a home run. Zach Jackson each faced the minimum of three batters in their inning with each of the two pitchers striking out one.

Roster Notes: Tayler Saucedo was activated off the DL.
