May 25, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

Conor Fisk

In four games, the Blue Jays’ affiliates ran the table with a clean sweep despite the New Hampshire Fisher Cats getting rained out. The Dunedin Blue Jays swept a double header while the Lansing Lugnuts came from behind to walk one off.

Buffalo Bisons 4, Gwinnett Braves 1

Jarrod Saltalamacchia

A four-run outburst in the third inning that included Jarrod Saltalamacchia’s first Buffalo home run gave the Buffalo Bisons enough of a cushion to defeat the Gwinnett Braves 4-1 in afternoon action. Saltalamacchia was 3/3 with the blast, three RBI and a walk as the DH for the Bisons. Jake Elmore and Dwight Smith, Jr. were each 2/4 with a walk and a run and Rowdy Tellez was 1/3 with a double and a sacrifice fly.

Mat Latos was the beneficiary of the four runs and didn’t even need all of them, giving up just one run on five hits (including a solo home run) and two walks with seven strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings. Matt Dermody tossed 1 1/3, allowing two hits while Murphy Smith and Leonel Campos combined for 2 1/3 innings without allowing a walk or a hit (Smith hit a batter).

The big news was that J.A. Happ was starting for the Blue Jays, throwing three innings in a rehab assignment and allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. WIlliam Ouellette tossed a scoreless fourth, taking over after Happ gave up a leadoff single which came around to score after Ouellette allowed a single after getting two ground outs.  Jordan Romano came on for four innings of his own, allowing a run on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts and Ryan Cook pitched the ninth, stranding a hit and a walk to pick up his fourth win.

Nash Knight had a great game in his first in a Dunedin Blue Jays uniform. After getting called up from Lansing, Knight delivered, driving in the winning run with the second of his two doubles whle adding a walk. Connor Panas hit his fourth home run of the year, getting two hits and a walk with two RBI. Juan Kelly was on base twice with a 1/3 game, adding two walks and scoring twice, including the game winner.
