It was a busy day after the flurry of roster moves and Scott Copeland made his big league debut while other players made their first appearances with their new clubs. Despite the moves, the Blue Jays’ minor league teams went 0/4 on Saturday.
Buffalo Bisons 2, Louisville Bats 5
Casey Lawrence made his first start of the year for the Buffalo Bisons and allowed four runs over 6 1/3 innings off nine hits. Typically, he didn’t walk anyone and struck out six, a rather high number for the finesse righty. Ryan Tepera struck out three over 1 2/3 perfect innings while Preston Guilmet allowed the final run to score. The Bisons’ offense didn’t do much with only four hits, one each coming from Andy Burns, Matt Hague, Chris Colabello and Ryan Schimpf.
Roster Notes: Dalton Pompey and Andrew Albers were optioned back to Buffalo while Ryan Schimpf, Casey Lawrence and Daniel Norris also arrived with Scott Copeland and Ezequiel Carrera going up to Toronto.
Player of the Game: None
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Binghamton Mets 2
Taylor Cole had his best start of the season, throwing 5 innings with just two runs on five hits and one walk allowed. Cole only struck out one but got seven outs via a ground ball. The Barneses, Danny (2 IP, 2 H, 2 K) and Scott (1 IP, 1 K) mopped up the rest of the game without allowing a run. While the Fisher Cats’ offense produced seven hits (two by Jon Berti including a double), they only managed to score one in the loss. Christian Lopes went 0/3 in his Double-A debut while Jon Berti played third base.
Roster Notes: Casey Lawrence and Ryan Schimpf were sent to Buffalo with no reinforcements arriving in New Hampshire just yet.
Player of the Game: Taylor Cole
Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Clearwater Threshers 8
Brad Allen was prone to the long ball, giving up two home runs that accounted for four of his seven runs allowed as he only went four innings for the Dunedin Blue jays in an 8-2 loss. Alberto Tirado threw three innings with one run on four hits allowed while Brady Dragmire threw a scoreless eighth to finish the game. The offense for Dunedin was also quiet, getting just five hits including two (a single and a triple) from Derrick Loveless who is now, quietly, hitting .292.

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Bowling Green Hot Rods 10
Shane Dawson had another excellent outing that was wasted by the bullpen as the Lugnuts dropped another to the Bowling Green Hot Rods by a 10-4 score. Dawson went five innings, taking the loss but only gave up one run on four hits with four strikeouts. Carlos Ramirez gave up three runs on four hits and a walk in one inning of work while Colton Turner allowed four runs on six hits in two innings. Phil Kish surrendered two runs of his own on four hits in his inning despite striking out a pair.
Tim Locastro had the big blow for the Lugnuts, driving in three in the ninth with a two-run, inside-the-park home run that added to his single earlier in the game. Justin Atkinson and Ryan McBroom were both 2/4 with a double while Anthony Alford was 2/5 with a double.
Roster Notes: Jose Fernandez was placed on the DL while Conor Fisk was assigned to Lansing from extended spring training.
