The top two clubs in the Blue Jays’ minor league system were responsible for all three of their wins with the Fisher Cats sweeping a double header against the Hartford Yard Goats. The Dunedin Blue Jays and Lansing Lugnuts were not so successful in their games.

Buffalo Bisons 1, Norfolk Tides 0

 

The Buffalo Bisons got a win against the Norfolk Tides, edging them out 1-0 after an excellent pitching duel. Chris Leroux started for the Bisons, throwing five innings of three-hit, one-walk ball, striking out five and throwing 80 pitches. Bo Schultz continued his way back to the majors, throwing a clean inning, striking out one and needing just six pitches to get through the sixth. Chad Jenkins allowed two hits and two walks but emerged from the seventh unscathed while Pat Venditte struck out a pair in the eighth. Dustin Antolin saved his third game of the year, giving up two hits and striking out one with a scoreless ninth.

The Bisons only had three hits but it was the home run by Tony Sanchez that made the difference. Jesus Montero also had a double and Dalton Pompey hit a single.

Player of the Game: Chris Leroux

Roster Notes: Bo Schultz was assigned to Buffalo to continue his rehab assignment and infielder Shane Opitz was sent back down to New Hampshire.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Hartford Yard Goats 2

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got some excellent pitching and another home run from Rowdy Tellez to beat the Hartford Yard Goats in the first half of a double header on Saturday. Casey Lawrence went five innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk with three strikeouts. John Stilson worked a scoreless sixth, allowing just one walk and striking out two and Wil Browning picked up save number seven despite walking a pair in the seventh.

Tellez was 2/4, adding a double to his home run and driving in four runs. Dwight Smith, Jr. also had two doubles, going 2/3 with a walk and two runs.

Roster Notes: IF Shane Opitz came back to New Hampshire from Buffalo and Derrick Loveless was sent back down to Dunedin from the Fisher Cats.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Hartford Yard Goats 0

 

The Fisher Cats completed the sweep of the double header thanks to stellar pitching from Luis Santos. Santos threw six innings, allowing just four hits while striking out six. Murphy Smith saved it, throwing a perfect inning in the seventh.

Despite the Fisher Cats getting only four hits (the same number as the Yard Goats), they got an RBI double from Rowdy Tellez which made the difference. Tellez had two hits and a walk for the Fisher Cats and Ian Parmley hit a double.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Brevard County Manatees 7

Despite an excellent start from Justin Shafer, he couldn’t get much run support and the bullpen fell apart in a 7-2 loss for the Dunedin Blue Jays. Shafer gave up just two hits and three walks in six innings with three strikeouts. Aaron Loup made his first outing of the year, but only retired one batter, giving up four runs on two hits and two walks. Matt Dermody finished the inning, allowing just one hit but he allowed all three runners inherited from Loup to score. Adonys Cardona his first two runs of the year, giving up two hits and two walks with one strikeout in 1/3 of an inning. Tim Mayza allowed one of Cardona’s three runners to score and gave up an unearned run of his own over 1 2/3 innings.

Anthony Alford was ejected in the first inning and was replaced by L.B. Dantzler who played left field and went 1/3. Ryan Mcbroom has been heating up and hit his sixth home run of the year, going 2/4 wtih two RBI. Jason Leblebijian had the Blue Jays’ only other hit of the night.

Roster Notes: David Harris was assigned to extended spring training and Derrick Loveless was sent back from New Hampshire. Aaron Loup was assigned to Dunedin on a rehab assignment.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 2, South Bend Cubs 6

 

While the Lansing Lugnuts were able to allow fewer than the 15 runs they gave up to the South Bend Cubs on Friday, they still gave up six and only scored two for the loss. Sean Reid-Foley was the starter and got through the first three innings unscathed despite giving up three hits. It was in the fourth that Reid-Foley ran into trouble, giving up six hits and a walk, with a wild pitch thrown in, around two outs. Reid-Foley was eventually charged with five runs on nine hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings. Starlyn Suriel put out the first, retiring the only batter he faced in the foruth and threw a scoreless fifth. Patrick Murphy made his Lansing debut (and his first outing since 2014), giving up one unearned run over two innings despite two hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Dusty Isaacs finished it off, throwing two innings of one-hitter, striking out another five batters, giving him ten in his last two outings.

The offense only had seven hits including one from every player except for Connor Panas (who had an RBI) and Gunnar Heidt. Andrew Guillotte hit a double and walked, driving in a run while Lane Thomas also hit a double and walked. Juan Kelly did the same.
