Gonna be a quick minor league report today so that I can get to the podcast for y’all! Three close games (all losses) and a laugher yesterday! The biggest news was that Kevin Pillar was recalled to Toronto and Jonathan Diaz sent back to Buffalo.

Buffalo Bisons 2, Gwinnett Braves 3

Darin Mastroianni went deep and had two hits as the Bisons fall. Sean Nolin wasn’t at his best but limited the damage to three runs despite seven hits and four walks in 5 1/3 innings. Ryan Goins also had a 2/4 day.

Player of the Game: Darin Mastroianni

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Reading Fightin’ Phils 3

Aaron Sanchez continues to struggle with command, walking four (and striking out four) in five innings, allowing two hits and two runs. The hitters could only put up five hits with Jonathan Jones walking twice and stealing two bases and Ryan Schmipf going 0/0 with a sac fly, three walks and a stolen base. Accounting for the other run was Gabe Jacobo who hit a home run.

Player of the Game: Ryan Schimpf

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Palm Beach Cardinals 1

The D-Jays scattered nine hits but couldn’t capitalize on any of their base runners, allowing Taylor Cole’s strong outing (7 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 5 K) to go to waste. Derrick Chung had two singles and two walks.

Lansing Lugnuts 10, Bowling Green Hot Rods 0

The offense is exploding for the Lugnuts and the road trip to Kentucky is doing the club a world of good as they destroyed the Hot Rods with another 15-hit attack and ten more runs to move above .500 for the season. The Lugnuts got Matt Dermody‘s best start of his young season (he’s made three so far), getting eight shutout innings from the 6-foot-5 lefty with four hits against, one walk and six strikeouts. D.J. Davis hit his second home run in as many games, going 3/5 and stole a base but was also caught stealing for the eighth time this year. L.B. Dantzler had a pair of hits, Dawel Lugo went 3/5 with his first home run of the year and Santiago Nessy went 3/5 with two doubles and three RBI.

May 14 Preview

Buffalo Bisons (21-15)

The Bisons have been slipping lately (despite being tied for their division lead) and Ricky Romero‘s struggles on the mound are not going to make it easier to put some space between them and the Pawtucket Red Sox in the divisional race. Romero faces Gus Schlosser, a 25-year-old righty from Florida who has actually pitched better in the majors for the Braves than he has in the minors. Catch the game in Buffalo at 7:05 PM at Coca-Cola Field, or watch it on MiLB TV.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (15-22)

The Fisher Cats have an uphill battle today facing Jesse Biddle, the Philadelphia Phillies’ top pitching prospect. The ‘Cats send Deck McGuire who hasn’t been great in his last couple of starts, falling victim to mental lapses and bad innings. We’re hoping today’s early game at 10:35 AM (on radio and internet radio) will be a wake up and he can turn things around.

Dunedin Blue Jays (27-10)

The D-Jays are sending Ben White out to the mound for this evening’s 6:35 PM ET start against Thomas Lee. White, along with the rest of the D-Jays’ dynamic starting rotation, has been excellent this year, posing a 2.65 ERA in 37 1/3 innings over his six starts (averaging over six innings per start). For the Cardinals, Lee has been a control artist, walking only three batters with 22 strikeouts in 32 innings this year.

Lansing Lugnuts (18-17)

The Lugnuts also have a morning game, getting underway at 11:35 AM before coming back home to Lansing for a home stand. Jeremy Gabryszwski starts for the Lugnuts against Tampa Bay prospect Ryne Stanek who’s making only his second start of the year after a one-run, five-inning, six strikeout appearance in his first start against Lake County. Gaby has been strong, throwing 41 innings this year with a solid, 3.73 ERA. More impressively, he only has seven walks and 22 strikeouts for a better than 3-1 ratio.
