The Blue Jays’ farm clubs couldn’t quite get enough offense for the most part, winning one of their three games but a monster day from Rowdy Tellez helped the Lansing Lugnuts snap a four-game losing streak and kept the Jays’ affiliates from being shut out of the win column.

Buffalo Bisons 0, Durham Bulls 1

 

The Buffalo Bisons have sent out an APB looking for some new bats after getting blanked by the Durham Bulls 1-0 on Wednesday to send their record to 17-16. Felix Doubront was impressive in his Bisons debut, allowing just one hit and one walk in five innings with three strikeouts. Rob Rasmussen took the loss, allowing the game’s only run in the sixth inning while Chad Jenkins (2 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 2 K) and Bobby Korecky (1 IP) finished up. Chris Dickerson and Brad Glenn had two hits each accounting for four of the seven hits the Bisons got on the day. Andy Burns was 1/2 with two walks while Dalton Pompey was 0/4 with three strikeouts.

Roster Notes: Preston Guilmet, who had been DFAed a few days ago was claimed by the Rays. Doubront was activated from the DL and Luis Perez went back to New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, New Britain Rock Cats 10

In a morning game, the New Britain Rock Cats extended their winning streak to 12 games despite a couple of home runs from the home team. In a “too-little, too-late” situation, Pierce Rankin (2/3, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB) and Kevin Nolan (2/5, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI) went deep while Dwight Smith, Jr. added two hits. Starter Casey Lawrence was pummeled, getting tagged for nine runs in just five innings. Tiago Da Silva had two perfect innings, striking out three while Arik Sikula allowed a run on two hits and two walks in two innings.

Roster Notes: Luis Perez was demoted from Buffalo while Emilio Guerrero was placed on the 7-Day DL.

Player of the Game: Pierce Rankin and Kevin Nolan

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Fort Myers Miracle 2

 

Despite another strong start from Luis Santos, the Dunedin Blue Jays also couldn’t must much offense and lost a close game 2-1 to the Fort Myers Miracle. Santos went 6 1/3 innings with just one run on three hits allowed while striking out five. Brady Dragmire got through 1 1/3 innings without allowing a hit but walking two and Chad Girodo took the loss, allowing the walk-off run in the bottom of the ninth. Three Blue Jays had two hits apiece including Roemon Fields (2/5, 2B), L.B. Dantzler (2/4, pushing his batting average up to .300) and Mitch Nay (2/4 to bring his batting average to .200).

Roster Notes: P Michael Kraft was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Player of the Game: Luis Santos

 

Lansing Lugnuts 6, South Bend Cubs 4

 

The Lugnuts salvaged a win against the South Bend Cubs, ending a four-game losing streak and bringing their record to 18-15. Shane Dawson had another strong start, going six innings and allowing just two runs on four hits with six strikeouts. Andrew Case went another two innings but walked three while Phil Kish allowed two unearned runs in his inning.

The offense got an explosion from Rowdy Tellez who was 4/5 with three doubles and a home run, driving in three runs. D.J. Davis and Dan Jansen each had two hits with Jansen knocking in a run and hitting a double. Richard Urena also hit his fourth home run of the season, going 1/5.
