The Jays squandered a strong start by Marcus Stroman yesterday but, as it is all summer, there’s another game today!
Buffalo Bisons 7, Syracuse Chiefs 6
It took 13 innings but the Bisons managed to get another win, this time on the road in Syracuse. Esmil Rogers had a strong start, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks but struck out eight in five innings. Mike Zagurski and Ryan Tepera each allowed runs to score but Raul Valdes (3 IP, 3 K), and Bobby Korecky (2 IP, 1 H, 1 K) shut the door the rest of the way. Kenny Wilson was promoted back to Triple-A and went 2/5 with a triple, an RBI, a walk and was caught stealing. A.J. Jimenez and Erik Kratz had the biggest games, each getting four hits but Kratz made his count a little more, hitting two doubles and a home run, and driving in six of the Bisons’ seven runs.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, New Britain Rock Cats 2
With a solid start from Richard Bleier (5 1/3 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K), the Fisher Cats were able to win their fifth game in a row. Jon Berti contributed with two hits, two RBI and a stolen base and Derrick Chung also had a pair of singles. Matt Newman drove in three runs thanks to a bases loaded double in the seventh inning.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Tampa Yankees 5
The Tampa Yankees got to Taylor Cole for five runs over four innings but Chad Girodo kept the D-Jays in the game with four innings of scoreless, three-hit relief. The Blue Jays got to a rehabbing C.C. Sabathia early for two runs but the rest of the pitching staff shut things down afterwards. Peter Mooney was 2/5 with a double while Gustavo Pierre was 2/4 and Christian Lopes was 2/3 with a double, a walk and two RBI.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Great Lakes Loons 2
The Lugnuts are playing a lot of close games and are winning quite a few of them lately, taking another squeaker from the Great Lakes Loons on Saturday. Jeremy Gabryszwski was very strong yet again, going six innings and allowing just two runs on seven hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Alonzo Gonzalez and Griffin Murphy finished the game with two scoreless innings for Gonzalez and one scoreless inning for Murphy who picked up his 15th save of the season. The offense wasn’t great but it was good enough thanks to a double and RBI from Dickie Joe Thon out of the leadoff spot, a single and double from Mitch Nay and a single and triple from Derrick Loveless, who seems to be really heating up again.

Vancouver Canadians 1, Tri-City Dust Devils 0
Jairo Labourt had his best outing of the year on Saturday, throwing six no-hit innings (with three walks and six strikeouts) at the Dust Devils, earning his first win of the season at any level. He was followed by Andrew Case who allowed one hit and struck out two in two innings and Brett Barber who got three ground ball outs in his inning of work. The offense only had six hits, including two singles from Michael De La Cruz and Christian Vazquez had the only double of the game. Sean Hurley drove home the game’s only run with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning and Franklin Barreto took two walks and was caught stealing.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Danville Braves 8
It wasn’t pretty on Saturday night as the Bluefield Blue Jays had their hats handed to them by the Danville Braves. The club had only four hits and made two errors (Gabriel Cenas and Rolando Segovia) with Dan Jansen getting the only extra-base hit (to go along with a walk) and Austin Davis was 2/2 with a walk. Francisco Rios started and only one of his four runs were earned as he went five innings. Matthew Smoral came in to relieve him in the sixth and allowed four runs on six hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings but struck out five.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Braves 5
17-year-old Dominican Hansel Rodriguez had another rough outing, lasting only one inning and allowing four runs (three earned) on just three hits. Jonathan Wandling went five innings and surrendered just one run on two hits while Francisco Diaz held the Braves hitless in two innings. Jordan Romano allowed one hit in his inning of work to finish the game. Juan Tejada had another two hits and Juan Kelly went 1/3 with two runs and two walks, as did Angel Gomez, who only scored once.

DSL Blue Jays 10, DSL Tigers 4
The DSL Blue Jays have had their bats going over the last couple of days and they put a beating on the Tigers on Saturday. Junior Vasquez, playing second base, led the way with three singles and two stolen bases while Javier Hernandez was 2/3 with a single, a double, a walk and an RBI, throwing out two of the five attempted base stealers from behind the plate. Jesus Severino was 2/5 with a triple and two RBI (and a stolen base) while Rodrigo Orozco stole a base, went 2/3 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, two runs and two RBI. Luis Sanchez allowed all four runs (three earned) in four innings of work but Yonardo Herdenez picked up his third win with four innings of scoreless, one-hit, one-walk ball with four strikeouts.

June 29 Preview
Buffalo Bisons (42-38)
Liam Hendriks has been one of the Buffalo Bisons’ best pitchers this season with a 6-0 record and a tiny 1.82 ERA. He’ll face Syracuse’s Aaron Laffey (the former Blue Jays) who is pitching very well with a 9-3 record and 3.18 ERA. The game is at 5:00 PM in Syracuse on MiLB TV.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats (36-44)
Daniel Norris gets a shot to keep the winning streak going as the New Hampshire Fisher Cats are home to the New Britain Rock Cats at 1:35 PM on MiLB TV.
Dunedin Blue Jays (49-30)
Matt Boyd goes for the Dunedin Blue Jays at 1:00 PM as they face the Tampa Yankees and Jaron Long.
Lansing Lugnuts (38-40)
Shane Dawson toes the slab for the Lugnuts today at 3:05 PM facing the Great Lakes Loons on MiLB TV. Dawson is up against Greg Harris, a 19-year-old righty from California who is sporting a 5.26 ERA in 53 innings so far this year.
Vancouver Canadians (9-7)
The Vancouver Canadians’ starter for an 8:05 PM ET game is unannounced and I’m not exactly sure who the rotation calls for. The starter five games ago was Justin Shafer who put in a great outing against Hillsboro.
Bluefield Blue Jays (4-6)
The Bluefield Blue Jays will go up against the Danville Braves yet again, this time sending Jesus Tinoco to the mound against 19-year-old Alec Grosser at 4:00 PM.
The GCL and DSL Blue Jays have Sundays off.
