The Blue Jays’ minor leaguers got on the right side of the ledger on Sunday, winning four of their six games despite the continuation of some losing skids by the Dunedin Blue Jays and the Lansing Lugnuts.

 

Buffalo Bisons 7, Syracuse Chiefs 5

 

The Buffalo Bisons (35-40) defeated the Syracuse Chiefs by a 7-5 score thanks to big offensive outbursts by Roemon Fields and Christian Lopes. Fields was 3/4 with a triple, an RBI and two runs while Lopes, hitting in the leadoff position, was 3/5 with two doubles, an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Jon BErti was 1/5 with two RBI and stole two bases while Jason Leblebijian was 2/4 with a double, a walk and a run. Gregorio Petit also provided some offense, going 2/4 with a double and two runs. Rowdy Tellez was on base twice with a double and a walk, driving in a run.

T.J. House didn’t have his best stuff, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks with a strikeout over six innings. He was followed by John Stilson, Glenn Sparkman and Chris Smith who each provided a hitless, scoreless inning to seal the win

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 3

 

Conner Greene and the New Hampshire Fisher Cats salvaged a series split against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies with a 5-3 win on Sunday after being swept in their double header on Saturday. Greene logged five innings of work, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks with just one strikeout to earn the win. Alonzo Gonzalez followed with two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out one while Danny Young and Andrew Case each threw a scoreless inning, striking out one each.

Gunnar Heidt continues to swing a hot bat, hitting his ninth home run and going 3/4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Richard Urena also drove in two, going 1/4 with a two-run home run. Jonathan Davis was on twice, going 1/3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Tampa Yankees 6

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays continue to scuffle, losing their third of four games against the Tampa Yankees 6-0 on Sunday. Angel Perdomo only lasted two innings, walking four and giving up two runs with just one hit against. Philip Walby allowed four more runs on four hits in 2 1/3 innings before three pitchers who started the year in Lansing, Jackson McClelland (1 2/3 IP, 1 BB, 1 K), Zach Jackson (1 IP, 1 H, 1K), and Tayler Saucedo (1 IP, 1 K), finished up without allowing a further run.

The offense was quiet, which has been par for the course of late. With singles from Cavan Biggio and Lane Thomas, there wasn’t much happening for the Blue Jays. Bradley Jones‘s struggles continue in Dunedin. After racking up a .326/.394/.560 slash line in Lansing, he’s hitting just .156 in Dunedin with 30 strikeouts in 64 at bats and came out of the game after striking out in his first two at bats.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 5

 

The Lansing Lugnuts lost their sixth game in a row, all to the West Michigan Whitecaps with a 5-2 loss on Sunday. At least the Lugnuts got a significant number of innings from their starter, Andy Ravel who took the loss, giving up five runs on nine hits over 7 1/3 innings. Daniel Lietz finished the game but allowed all three inherited runners to score on one hit over 2/3 of an inning.

Rodrigo Orozco, Edward Olivares and Bo Bichette each had two hits with Olivares hitting a solo home run his 11th, in the first inning. J.B. Woodman walked twice and didn’t strikeout.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Spokane Indians 3

 

The Vancouver Canadians got dominant pitching which, combined with some excellent offensive production, added up to the club’s eighth win of the season, 8-3 over the Spokane Indians. Matt Shannon made his pro debut, tossing a scoreless first inning but it was Dany Jimenez who took over and had his way with Spokane. Jimenez went six innings, allowing just one run on two hits and a walk while striking out nine batters. Grayson Huffman allowed two runs in his inning of work on a two-run home run and Orlando Pascual finished the game with a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out two.

Third-round pick Riley Adams had a huge day, going 4/4 at the plate with a home run, two doubles and three RBI. Brock Lundquist was 3/4 with a walk, two doubles, an RBI and two runs. Deiferson Barreto was 2/5 with a double, an RBI and a run while Kacy Clemens was 2/4 with a double, two RBI and a run.

Bluefield Blue Jays 10, Burlington Royals 3

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays opened up their series against the Burlington Royals with a resounding 10-3 win. Zach Logue started and struck out two in his inning of work but it was Elio Silva who did the heavy lifting, throwing five innings of two-run ball, allowing three hits and striking out one to get the win. Jose Nova tossed an inning, giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk while Kelyn Jose struck out three, giving up just one hit in two innings.

Brandon Polizzi had a big day, going 4/4 with three doubles, an RBI and two runs. Sterling Guzman also had two hits, going 2/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Kevin Smith was 1/5 with his first professional home run and Tanner Kirwer was 1/3 with a walk and two runs. Ryan Noda continues to swing a hot bat, going 3/5 with a double, an RBI and a run, bringing his batting average to .556 in four games.
