June 23, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Blue Jays’ short season teams all won their games on a Friday that saw the overall organization have a 5-2 record in the minor leagues.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Syracuse Chiefs 2

 

The Blue Jays’ Rule 5 draft pick Glenn Sparkman took the loss on Friday night as the Buffalo Bisons (34-39) lost 2-1 to the Syracuse Chiefs. Sparkman’s one bad pitch to Irving Falu, who took it into the seats for a home run, wasted a strong start by Mike Bolsinger who went six innings, giving up just one run on seven hits. Sparkman finished the game, giving up two hits and striking out one in two innings.

The Bisons had six hits including three from Raffy Lopez who was 3/4 with two doubles and a run. Shane Opitz drove in the club’s only run of the game, going 1/3 with an RBI. Roemon Fields was 1/3 iwth a stolen base and Jon Berti walked and stole second.

Roster Notes: Cesar Valdez was sent back down to Buffalo from Toronto and Ian Parmley‘s contract was purchased by the Blue Jays.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 1

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats finally got some offense going, beating the Binghamton Rumble Ponies 5-1 on Friday night. Harold Ramirez had a terrific day, going 3/3 with a walk, a double and a run. Gunnar Heidt hit his eighth home run of the year, going 1/4 with three RBI. Jonathan Davis and Richard Urena each had a hit and a walk.

Sean Reid Foley was dominant, throwing seven innings and giving up just four hits and two walks iwth five strikeouts in one of his best starts of the year. Tim Mayza gave up a hit and struck out one in his inning and Andrew Case finished the game, allowing a solo home run in the ninth.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Tampa Yankees 1

 

Lane Thomas

The Dunedin Blue Jays turned things around on the Tampa Yankees, coming up with a 4-1 win. Lane Thomas was instrumental in the victory, going 3/4 with a double, two RBI, a run and  stolen base. Juan Kelly contributed with his fourth home run of the year, going 1/4 with two RBI.

Josh DeGraaf had an excellent start, going five innings and allowing just one unearned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Ryan Cook went 1 2/3 innings, giving up a hit while Kirby Snead tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings and Zach Jackson got the save with a scoreless ninth, walking one.

Player of the Game: Lane Thomas

Roster Notes: Ryan Hissey was promoted to Dunedin from Lansing.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 5, West Michigan Whitecaps 7

 

Bo Bichette

The Lansing Lugnuts continue to struggle with the West Michigan Whitecaps, losing the second game of the second half by a 7-5 score. Joshua Palacios hit his first professional home run, driving in a pair while Bo Bichette was 3/5 with a double and two runs but was caught stealing. Edward Olivares was 2/5 with a run and Christian Williams was 2/4 with a double and two RBI. Yeltsin Gudino was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

On the mound, Denis Diaz allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and a walk in 3 1/3 innings before Andrew Deramo relieved him, giving up two more runs on three hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. Griffin Glaude finished the game strongly, striking out four in two innings of one-hit ball.

Roster Notes: Ryan Hissey was promoted to the Dunedin Blue Jays

 

Vancouver Canadians 8, Spokane Indians 5

 

The Vancouver Canadians rallied for three runs in the eighth inning to beat the Spokane Indians 8-5. Kevin Vicuna was 3/3 with two walks, an RBI, a stolen base and four runs to lead the attack. Javier Hernandez was 2/4 with a walk, two RBI and a run and Brock Lundquist was 2/4 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base. Reggie Pruitt was 1/4 with a walk and a stolen base while Cullen Large was 1/4 with a walk and a run. Kacy Clemens was on base three times, going 1/3 with two walks and an RBI.

Kyle Weatherly allowed five runs but just two were earned as he allowed five hits (including a home run) and two walks, striking out four in 4 1/3 innings. Chris Hall tossed 2 2/3 innings of hitless ball, striking out three and William Ouellette got the win with two innings of one-hit ball, striking out a pair.

Roster Notes: Chavez Young was sent down to the Bluefield Blue Jays

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 9, Greeneville Astros 5

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays squared their record by outhitting the Greeneville Astros and beating them 9-5. Ryan Noda hit his first professional home run, going 2/4 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base. Chavez Young, making his first start in Bluefield, didn’t disappoint, going 2/4 with a walk and a run and Yorman Rodriguez also had two hits, going 2/5 with a double and three RBI. Ryan Gold was on base three times, going 1/3 with a double, two walks, two RBI and a run. Sterling Guzman was 1/4 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run.

Randy Pondler started for the Blue Jays, giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts over five innings. Kelyn Jose walked two in his two innings but didn’t give up a hit and struck out three. Yonardo Herdenez got the save despite allowing three runs on four hits (including a home run) with two strikeouts in two innings.

Roster Notes: Chavez Young was assigned to Bluefield from Vancouver

 

DSL Blue Jays 4, DSL Giants 2

 

The DSL Blue Jays pushed their record to 14-4 with a 4-2 win over the DSL Giants, taking advantage of six errors and eight walks. Warnel Valdez was 2/5 with a run and two stolen bases while Rafael Lantigua and Hector Guerrero were each 1/2 with three walks. Lantigua hit a double, stole a base and scored while Guerrero just hit a single and stole a base.

Rafael Monsion walked four batters in four innings but give up just one hit and no runs. Gaudy Ramirez allowed both Giants runs in 1 2/3 innings, walking three and giving up a hit. Juan Diaz threw  1/3 scoreless frames, striking out two and giving up a hit. Alexander Molina and Adolfo Molina each tossed a scoreless inning.
