Buffalo Bisons 8, Norfolk Tides 11

Drew Hutchison didn’t have a start that he’d like to remember, nor was it one that will help his case to return to the major leagues as the Buffalo Bisons lost 11-8 to the Norfolk Tides. Hutch surrendered six runs on eight hits (including three home runs as part of a HR bonanza) over just 2 2/3 innings. Ben Rowen gave up a run, of his own after stranding two of Hutchison’s. Rowen threw 3 2/3 innings, giving up four hits and just one run with one strikeout. Pat Venditte got all five of his outs via the strikeout, which helped him strand two runners left on by Rowen but Venditte loaded the bases on his own and gave up a grand slam for four earned runs on three hits in 1 1/2 innings. Colt Hynes finished the game, striking out two in his inning.

Darrell Ceciliani (3/3, BB, RBI, R, SB, CS) and Alexi Casilla (3/5, 2B, 3 R) each had three hits while Chris Colabello (2/4, 2 R, BB, HR, 2 RBI), Domonic Brown (2/5) and Ryan Goins (2/5, 2B, 3 RBI) had two hits each. Matt Dominguez also added his 12th home run.

Murphy Smith finished the game with two scoreless innings despite allowing two hits.

Dwight Smith, Jr. had three hits including a triple while Rowdy Tellez was 2/2, also with a triple, and two runs before leaving the game to make way for Seth Conner (who was 1/3).

Player of the Game: Dwight Smith, Jr.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Charlotte Stone Crabs 3

The Dunedin Blue Jays finished off their suspended game against the Charlotte Stone Crabs quickly, scoring in the bottom of the 10th inning to pick up the win. The win came from a leadoff double by Anthony Alford who was bunted over to third by Jonathan Davis. After a couple of walks, Gunnar Heidt singled home the winning run to start the day on a positive note. Jonathan “J.D.” Davis was 2/3 with a double, home run, walk, RBI, run and a stolen base, filling in several statistical categories on the day. Heidt was 2/5 with the game winning RBI and Danny Jansen was 2/4.

Francisco Rios started and gave up one run on four hits with one strikeout over five innings. Starlyn Suriel allowed two runs (one earned) on one hit and one walk in three innings while Alonzo Gonzalez picked up the win, going two perfect innings with three strikeouts.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Charlotte Stone Crabs 1

Following the completion of Sunday’s suspended game, the Blue Jays went on to defeat the Stone Crabs by a 4-1 score thanks to another strong start from Chris Rowley. Rowley went seven innings to go to 8-2 on the season with seven inning of one-run (unearned) ball, allowing six hits and three walks with two strikeouts. Jose Fernandez walked three but didn’t allow a hit and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings and Colton Turner earned his sixth save by getting the final out and stranding a runner.

Murphy struck out six over four innings, but walked three and allowed seven hits to take the loss. Grayson Huffman gave up four more runs on five hits and two walks in 1 1/3 innings and Gabe Noyalis allowed a run on a solo home run with two strikeouts in 1 2/3 innings. Stuart Holmes gave up a run on two hits and two walks in his inning of work to finish out the game.

Player of the Game: Lance Jones

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Greeneville Astros 4

It’s amazing that either team had enough energy to play after Sunday’s 20-inning game, but the Blue Jays and Astros were at it again on Monday with Greeneville rallying for three runs in the bottom of the ninth to come from behind and pick up a 4-3 win. Kyle Weatherly had a decent game, but the five walks he issued overshadowed the one hit he gave up over five innings. Weatherly struck out four in his start. Jose Espada allowed all four runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk, throwing 3 2/3 innings and taking the loss.

Nash Knight led the club with three hits, driving in a run and scoring one. Reggie Pruitt (2/3, R), Cam O’Brien(2/4) and Kalik May (2/4, 3B, 2 RBI) also contributed with two hits each.
