The Blue Jays’ clubs were all in action and three of the five teams came out with a victory including two for the Dunedin Blue Jays.
Buffalo Bisons 5, Charlotte Knights 4
Daniel Norris got the start for the Buffalo Bisons and wasn’t at his sharpest, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks despite striking out six in four innings. The 91 pitches in just four innings were probably the most concerning stat as he wasn’t able to put battes away quickly. Chad Jenkins earned the win with three innings of two-hit ball and Todd Redmond finished the game with a two-inning save.
The offense was efficient, scoring five runs on just seven hits. Matt Hague pushed his batting average over .350 (to .352) with a 2/2 game that also included two walks while Melky Mesa was 2/4 with a double. Caleb Gindl had the biggest blow, hitting a three-run home run in the seventh inning, giving him a double and a triple on the game. Daric Barton also drove in two runs.
Roster Notes: The Blue Jays sent Steve Tolleson to the Bisons to continue his rehab assignment and they sent Austin Bibens-Dirkx down to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
Player of the Game: Caleb Gindl
New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Altoona Curve 8
The New Hampshire Fisher Cats scored five runs in a big fourth inning against the Altoona Curve but the pitching wasn’t able to hold on to a lead and the club fell 8-5. John Anderson got the start and allowed the first four runs in five innings before Scott Barnes pitched a scoreless sixth before allowing a hit to the first batter he faced in the seventh inning. Danny Barnes came in and let that runner score and had three runs of his own charged before the game was over. Chad Girodo entered in the seventh inning and allowed his inherited runner to score in his Double-A debut but then went out and pitched a scoreless eighth to finish the game for the Fisher Cats.
Dalton Pompey, swinging a hot bat in Double-A, launched his fourth home run in a 1/5 effort. K.C. Hobson and Dwight Smith, Jr. were both 2/4 and Shane Opitz was 1/3 with a walk and two RBI.
Roster Notes: Austin Bibens-Dirkx was sent to New Hampshire from Buffalo and OF Matt Newman was activated off the DL.

Dunedin Blue Jays 12, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4
The Dunedin Blue Jays completed the sweep of their double header against Lakeland by an emphatic 12-4 margin. All of the starters had at least one hit except for Jorge Saez who was actually 0/0 with two walks and two sacrifice flies. Jonathan Davis (J.D.) had four RBI on his two doubles, going 2/3 and scoring twice. Mitch Nay also drove in a pair with two doubles while Dawel Lugo also had two doubles and two runs scored. Derrick Loveless was 1/2 with a walk and two RBI and L.B. Dantzler was 3/4 with a home run. Christian Lopes was on base three times with a single, two walks, two runs and an RBI.
Murphy Smith was on the mound and he went five innings with three runs allowed on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Brady Dragmire allowed another run on three hits over two innings.
Player of the Game: L.B. Dantzler
Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4
Jairo Labourt was on the mound for the opener of a double header and he wasn’t sharp, walking five in 4 2/3 innings and surrendering three runs but striking out four. Matt Smoral entered the game with two of Labourt’s runners on and allowed both to score before retiring a batter. He came back out for the sixth inning and he gave up a walk and a bunt single before he was relieved by Matt Dermody. Dermody picked up the win with two perfect innings of relief.
The offense came together with Roemon Fields going 2/4 with a triple, a single, two runs, an RBI and a stolen base while Matt Dean was 2/4 with a home run and two RBI. Jonathan Davis (J.D.) was 1/3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Both Boomer Collins and Martin Medina added triples.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Cedar Rapids Kernels 3
Jesus Tinoco had a rough first inning, allowing three runs to the Cedar Rapids Kernels but settled down afterwards, finishing the game with seven innings with ten strikeouts. Tinoco allowed eight hits but didn’t walk any in a stellar performance (outside of his first inning). Dusty Isaacs finished the game with a perfect eighth that included a strikeout.
The Cedar Rapids pitchers had the Lugnuts’ batters mostly silent although Rowdy Tellez was 2/3 with a walk and Chris Carlson hit a double for the club’s only other hit of the game.
Player of the Game: Jesus Tinoco
DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL White Sox 2
The DSL Blue Jays notched another win to push their record to 7-5, scoring once in the first and five times in the second. Jesus Severino was 4/5 with a double while Norberto Obeso was 3/5. Yorman Rodriguez was 2/4 with a walk and two RBI while both Sam Buelens and Kevin Vicuna had a hit and a walk. Buelens stole his first base as a pro but was also picked off of second and caught stealing.
Wilfri Aleton got the start and allowed both runs (although one was unearned) over four innings with three strikeouts. Jose Dominguez went three innings with a hit and two walks against, striking out three and Guillermo De La Cruz went two innings, walking one and striking out two.
