The Blue Jays’ affiliates just missed a sweep, winning three of four. The organization got a very good game from Canadian Shane Dawson while another Canadian Tom Robson shows signs of righting himself after struggling since returning from Tommy John surgery.

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Charlotte Knights 2

 

Drew Hutchison continues to have a good season as he picked up his third win of the year, leading the Buffalo Bisons to a 5-2 win over the Charlotte Knights. The extent of the scoring off Hutch was a two-run home run but otherwise, he allowed three hits and two walks over the course of six innings, striking out seven. Bo Schultz gave up a hit and struck out three over two innings while Ryan Tepera picked up his seventh save with a perfect ninth, striking out two.

Domonic Brown had three hits including a double and an RBI and Junior Lake drove in three runs with a home run and a sac fly, going 1/2, adding a walk. A.J. Jimenez was 2/4 with a double and a run, as was Matt Dominguez while Dalton Pompey extended his hitting streak to 13 games with an infield single. Andy Burns was 1/3 with a walk and a double.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Bowie Baysox 3

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got out to an early lead and while Shane Dawson was keeping the Bowie Baysox off the board, Ian Parmley was powering the offense in a 7-3 win. Dawson started off shakily, walking two in the first inning but he settled down and didn’t allow another runner until a single and double in the fifth inning. He ended up throwing 6 1/3 innings with three runs allowed (one earned) on three hit s and two walks with three strikeouts. Matt Dermody couldn’t put out the first, coming in with two runners on and allowing both to score, giving up a pair of hits in 2/3 of an inning but Danny Barnes (1 IP, 1 BB) and Colt Hynes (1 IP) kept Bowie off the board to secure the win.

Ian Parmley has turned himself into the most consistent hitter on the Fisher Cats, going 4/4 with a home run and four RBI. Rowdy Tellez was 2/3 with two runs, a walk and a stolen base while Christian Lopes was 2/4 with a double and a run. Lopes struck out in his last at bat after having a strike on him without a pitch being thrown after he failed to get in the batter’s box before the pitch clock ran out. Roemon Fields also hit a home run, driving in a pair.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Charlotte Stone Crabs 7

 

Despite nine hits, the Dunedin Blue Jays couldn’t capitalize and fell 7-0 in their opener against the Charlotte Stone Crabs. Jonathan Davis was 2/3 with two walks while Richard Urena was 2/5 with a double and Jorge Saez was 2/3 with a walk.

Chris Rowley allowed five of the runs (four earned) on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts over six innings. Brad Allen finished the game and allowed two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings.

Player of the Game: Jonathan Davis

Lansing Lugnuts 5, West Michigan Whitecaps 3

 

12 hits and six walks helped the Lansing Lugnuts put together a 12-inning win over the West Michigan Whitecaps. In the top of the 12th, the Lugnuts got a single from Gunnar Heidt and Josh Almonte before three straight walks scored two runs, giving the Lugnuts the lead and the win. For Heidt, it was his second hit of the game and Jake Thomas also had two hits (including a double) and a walk, driving in a run. Carl Wise (2/5), Josh Almonte (2/5, RBI) and J.C. Cardenas (2/4, RBI, R) also had two hits each.

Tom Robson had the start for the Lugnuts and, while he showed some improvement from some of his other outings this year, allowing just two runs (one earned) on eight hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings, he still threw two wild pitches and made a throwing error in the field. Daniel Lietz relieved him with two innings of one-run ball, striking out two while Starlyn Suriel was the “star” of the game, throwing four perfect innings in relief, striking out four, including the final three batters of the game.
