The Blue Jays’ affiliates played six games, losing four on Saturday. Still, there were a couple of outstanding pitching performances to comment on.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Charlotte Knights 9

 

The Buffalo Bisons were stifled by former top prospect Anthony Ranaudo who limited the Bisons to just one run on six hits as they fell 9-1 in the opener of the “Keep Brady Suspended” night at the ballpark. Chris Leroux took the loss for the Bisons, allowing six runs (four earned) on seven hits and two walks but also struck out eight batters over 4 2/3 innings. Pat McCoy finished the game for the Bisons, throwing 2 1/3 innings and giving up three runs on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Darrell Ceciliani was 2/3 and Jio Mier drove in the Bisons’ only run with a double.

Buffalo Bisons 1, Charlotte Knights 5

 

Game 2 of the double header didn’t provide much more for the home fans to cheer for as the Charlotte Knights completed the sweep with a 5-1 win. This time, the Bisons had just three hits including a double from David Adams.

Chad Jenkins got the spot start for the Bisons, lasting only two innings and giving up the first three runs on five hits. Chad Girodo gave up the last two over 2 2/3 innings despite striking out three. Ben Rowen (1 1/3 IP, 2 K) and Dustin Antolin (1 IP, 2 BB, 1 K) finished off the game.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Bowie Baysox 0

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats pulled themselves out of their losing streak with a 2-0 win over the Bowie Baysox. Starter Jeremy Gabryszwski was excellent in winning his fourth game of the year, using 88 pitches over six innings and giving up just four hits (two could have been ruled errors, if they had asked me) and one walk, striking out six along the way. Chris Smith came into the game, firing his 95+ mph fastball and faced just six batters over two innings, striking out two. Wil Browning earned his ninth save, allowing a hit and striking out one in the ninth inning.

The offense wasn’t exactly resounding, getting only seven hits, but the Fisher Cats took advantage of four errors by the Baysox. Dwight Smith, Jr. had a good game, hitting two doubles and Jorge Flores was 1/3 with a home run. Christian Lopes got a single to show for his hard contact while Roemon Fields was 1/4 (a bunt single) with two stolen bases.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, St. Lucie Mets 12

 

The St. Lucie Mets put a hurt on the Dunedin Blue Jays, plastering them by a 12-2 score on Saturday. Justin Shafer took the brunt of the damage, allowing eight runs on eight hits and four walks in four innings. Kyle Westwood allowed a further two runs on four hits (including a home run) in three innings, lowering his ERA to 6.71 while Adonys Cardona walked four, got one out, gave up two runs and left the bases loaded for Colton Turner. “Miracle” Turner stranded all three runners, striking out three and giving up a hit and a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

Jorge Saez continues to swing a hot bat, driving in both runs with two hits and stealing a base. Ryan McBroom hit a double for the club’s only extra-base hit.

Roster Notes: Anthony Alford was placed on the 7-day DL (concussion) and Michael De La Cruz was activated.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 9, West Michigan Whitecaps 1

 

Sean Reid-Foley was in complete control and the offense did the job for the Lansing Lugnuts for a 9-1 win against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Reid-Foley worked seven innings for his fourth win, allowing only four hits and one walk with four strikeouts, giving up the Whitecaps’ only run. Nate Abel worked the final two frames, giving up a hit and a walk with three strikeouts.

Jake Thomas continues to rake in Lansing, going 3/6 with an RBI and a run while Carl Wise brought his batting average up to .228 with a 3/4 game, hitting a double, driving in a run and scoring twice. Andrew Guillotte was the only player with two hits (2/5, 2 R) as every other player had at least one hit. Max Pentecost was 1/4 but walked twice, drove in a run and scored twice and Josh Almonte replaced Lane Thomas in center field, going 1/1 with two walks.

DSL Blue Jays 2, DSL Reds 7

 

The blue Jays didn’t have the best game, losing 7-2 to the DSL Reds. Jose Dominguez took most of the damage, allowing five runs on five hits (including two home runs) and two walks with three strikeouts in three innings. Luis Mendoza only allowed a hit and a walk in three innings with two strikeouts. Oscar Brito walked one in his inning and Tommy Henriquez gave up two runs in the eighth, allowing two hits and a walk but striking out all three batters he faced.

The Blue Jays only had six hits including two from Jesus Navarro who also took a walk and drove in a run. Yeison Estevez, Cristian Peguero, Yhordegny Kelly and Victor Figuereo also had a hit and a walk each.
