In five games on Saturday, the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers closed the day with a 3-2 record, getting wins in Buffalo, Dunedin and the Dominican Republic.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Pawtucket Red Sox 0

 

Lucas Harrell made his debut for the Buffalo Bisons (32-28) and helped power the club to a 3-0 win over the Pawtucket Red Sox. Harrell threw five innings and allowed just two hits while striking out four. Mike Bolsinger got the win, tossing an additional two one-hit innings and Leonel Campos picked up the save, giving up three hits over two innings with two strikeouts.

Dwight Smith, Jr. led the (modest) hit parade, going 2/3 iwth a double, a walk and a run but it was Mike Ohlman and Jason Leblebijian who each went 1/4 with a home run.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Akron RubberDucks 7

 

Three home runs weren’t enough for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (24-36) who dropped their Saturday game 7-5 to the Akron RubberDucks. Danny Jansen, Tim Lopes and Matt Dean all went deep with Lopes and Dean going 3/4 on the day and Dean driving in a pair of runs. Jansen was 2/5, moving his batting average to .349 in Double-A while Richard Urena was 1/5 with a double and an RBI. Gunnar Heidt was 1/3 with a double and a walk. Steve Pearce, continuing his rehab with the Fisher Cats was 0/5 with three strikeouts.

Sean Reid-Foley started for the Fisher Cats and allowed six runs on five hits (including two home runs) and three walks in just three innings. Justin Shafer provided two innings of scoreless relief, allowing a hit and two walks with two strikeouts while Dusty Isaacs gave up a solo home run among three hits for one run over 2 1/3 innings, striking out five. Tim Mayza struck out four in 1 2/3 innings, allowing a hit.

Roster Notes: Michael De La Cruz was sent down to Dunedin while the Fisher Cats received Alex Monsalve from Buffalo.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Bradenton Marauders 1

 

Thanks to an excellent pitching performance from Jordan Romano, the Dunedin Blue Jays (30-31) ended their losing streak, beating the Bradenton Marauders 3-1 on Saturday. Romano went seven innings, tying his longest outing of the year and allowed only one run on one hit (and two hit batters) while striking out nine. Danny Young threw 1 2/3 innings, giving up a hit and striking out two and Kender Villegas picked up the save, getting the final out of the game.

The offense had just seven hits, including a single and a double from Juan Kelly who drove in a pair of runs and scored one. Connor Panas was on base twice with a double and a walk while Cavan Biggio scored two runs, going 1/4. Gregorio Petit was 1/3 in his continuing rehab assignment.

Roster Notes: Michael De La Cruz was sent to the Dunedin Blue Jays from the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Ryan Hissey was sent back to the Lansing Lugnuts from Dunedin.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Fort Wayne TinCaps 8

 

The Lansing Lugnuts (33-26) mounted a late charge, scoring twice in the ninth inning but couldn’t overcome a six-run deficit, ultimately losing to the Fort Wayne TinCaps 8-4. Rodrigo Orozco had a big game, going 3/5 with two runs while Edward Olivares went 2/4 with a double and a home run, driving in two and stealing a base. Bo Bichette also had two hits including a double, driving in one and Christian Williams hit a solo home run, adding a double, going 2/5.

Yennsy Diaz, making his first Lansing appearance was hitting 96 mph on the radar gun and allowed two hits and a walk in his two innings of work, striking out four. Tayler Saucedo took the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) over 3 1/3 innings on seven hits (including two home runs). Daniel Lietz walked two and struck out one in 1 2/3 scoreless inning and Nick Hartman gave up a home run, accounting for two runs in the eighth inning.

Roster Notes: Ryan Hissey was returned to the Lansing Lugnuts from Dunedin and Matt Morgan went back to extended spring training.

 

 

DSL Blue Jays 7, DSL Reds 6

 

The DSL Blue Jays (6-1) added another win to their record, scoring early and holding on to beat the DSL Reds 7-6. Naswell Paulino didn’t allow a run in four innings, giving up two hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Juan Jimenez gave up two runs in 1 1/3 innings while Luis Mendoza got the win, despite allowing a run in 1 2/3 innings. Moises De La Cruz gave up two runs without giving up a hit in 2/3 of an inning and Alexander Molina allowed a run on a hit and a walk with two strikeouts (despite being noted as having pitched 1/3 of an inning). Brayan Mejia earned the save, walking two in an inning of work.

Hector Guerrero added two more hits to his season, going 2/4 with two RBI and a run. Rafael Lantigua was 1/3 with a walk, two runs and a stolen base while William Saavedra hit a double and a drove in two runs. Victor Figuereo and Kenny Mauricio also went 1/3 with a double.
