July 30 Minor League Report/July 31 Preview

With John Lester on the trading block the Blue Jays faced Brandon Workman and got to him for five runs while Mark Buehrle returned to good form, earning the win for the Jays in a 6-1 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

 

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Indianapolis Indians 4

 

Brett Wallace hit his first home run as a member of the Buffalo Bisons and Sean Ochinko returned to the Herd with a bang as the Bisons won 5-4. Wallace led the way with a 3/5 game that including a home run and three RBI while Ochinko was the only other Bisons hitter with more than one hit, going 2/4 with a solo blast. P.J. Walters started and allowed four runs on eight hits and three walks over six innings while Sergio Santos, Kyle Drabek and Bobby Korecky each threw an inning finish off with the win.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Binghamton Mets 2

 

With 11 hits, the Fisher Cats beat the Binghamton Mets 7-2 on Wednesday. Casey Lawrence was strong again, throwing seven innings of two-run ball and Mickey Storey picked up the save, throwing two innings of his own. Jon Berti led the way offensively, going 4/5 with two doubles and Andy Burns was 2/5 with a double and a stolen base. Derrick Chung was also 2/5 with a double and an RBI and Matt Newman drove in two with a home run in the first inning.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, St. Lucie Mets 4

 

A three-run rally in the eighth innings wasn’t enough for the Dunedin Blue Jays as they lost 4-3. Matt Boyd got the start and allowed two runs (one earned) over five innings, walking two and striking out five. Ben White allowed two further runs over his inning of work and and Jonathan Wandling, an undrafted free agent from this year made his D-Jays debut with a scoreless innings before Wil Browning threw one of his own to finish the game. Ian Parmley had two hits (including a double) and two walks while Chrstian Lopes was 3/4 with a double and two RBI.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Dayton Dragons 3

 

The Lugnuts couldn’t get their offense going again Nick Travieso and the Dragons and fell 3-1. Brad Allen had a solid start, allowing three runs (two earned) over six innings with just one walk and six strikeouts while Roberto Espinosa struck out four over two perfect innings and Phil Kish threw a perfect inning of his own. Mitch Nay, Dawel Lugo and Derrick Loveless each had one of the team’s three hits and Chaz Frank was 0/1 with three walks and a stolen base (and was caught stealing).

Vancouver Canadians 7, Boise Hawks 8

 

The Canadians fell just short of the Hawks in another slug fest with each team registering 13 hits. Roemon Fields stole another base (his 33nd) and went 1/4 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Max Pentecost was 2/5 with a triple and two runs scored while Ryan McBroom (.327), Boomer Collins and Chris Carlson (.342) and Boomer Collins (.230) all padded their batting averages with two-hit games. NWL All-Star Jairo Labourt got the start and threw five scoreless innings but he walked four and struck out six. Alberto Tirado got hammered for five runs in 2/3 of an inning while Jose Fernandez and Adaric Kelly each allowed an unearned run on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Bluefield Blue Jays 13, Johnson City Cardinals 6

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays turned things around with the bats, slugging out 16 hits and 13 runs on Wednesday night. Jesus Gonazalez was 3/5 with a single, triple and a home run and he drove in four runs on the night. Dan Jansen had a big game too, going 2/3 with a home run and two walks to go with three RBI and two runs scored. Richard Urena (2B, 3B), Rowdy Tellez (2/4), Trent Miller (2/5), Gabriel Cenas (2/5, 2B, 2 RBI) and Rolando Segovia (2/4, BB, 2 2B, RBI) each had two hits. Matt Smoral had another strong start for the Blue Jays, going four innings and allowing just three hits and one walk with no runs and four strikeouts. Francisco Rios picked up the win despite allowing six runs (four earned) over four innings. Chase Wellbrock pitched a scoreless ninth.

GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Braves 7

 

Second round pick Sean Reid-Foley had another rough start as he allowed six runs on six hits and three walks in 2 1/3 innings. Angel Perdomo got away with some serious control issues, walking five but allowing only one hit over 3 2/3 innings and he didn’t give up a run. The team only had three hits, from Cole Gillespie (on a rehab assignment), Yeltsin Gudino and Andres De Aza.

DSL Blue Jays 12, DSL Brewers 11

 

The Blue Jays had 14 hits including four from Bryan Lizardo (4/5, 2 2B, 3 RBI) in a big win. Francisco Rodriguez was 2/2 with two walks and a double while Miguel Almonte was 2/5 with a double and a walk. Javier Hernandez also had a pair of singles. Yonardo Herdenez allowed five runs in 4 2/3 innings while Luis Gomez allowed just one in 3 1/3 innings with six strikeouts.

July 31 Preview

 

Buffalo Bisons (57-53)

 

Raul Valdes goes for the Buffalo Bisons against Indianapolis and can be seen on MiLB TV at 1:05 PM in matinee action.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (52-58)

 

John Anderson looks to keep a strong run of starts going as the Fisher Cats return home to face the Reading Fightin’ Phils at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays (62-46)

 

Despite pitching an inning last night, Ben White is scheduled to pitch for the Dunedin Blue Jays in St. Lucie as they take on the Mets at 6:30 PM.

 

Lansing Lugnuts (50-57)

 

The Lugnuts continue their series against the Dayton Dragons with Jeremy Gabryszwski on the mound for this one. He’s 6-3 with a 4.14 ERA. This one starts at 7:05 PM.

 

Vancouver Canadians (28-19)

 

Miguel Castro takes the ball for the Vancouver Canadians as they continue their series against the Boise Hawks on the road at 9:15 PM ET.

Bluefield Blue Jays (18-21)

 

Jesus Tinoco is the starter for the Bluefield Blue Jays as they move on to visit the Bristol Pirates at 7:00 PM.

 

The GCL and DSL Blue Jays are also both in action today.
