With nine games on the docket, the Blue Jays’ minor league clubs just missed a clean sweep, going 8-1 on Monday.

Buffalo Bisons 7, Syracuse Chiefs 0

 

With the Wolf Pack in full force, Randy Wolf went out and pitched a gem for the Buffalo Bisons, throwing 7 2/3 scoreless innings at the Syracuse Chiefs, allowing only five hits and one walk with nine strikeouts, finishing up with his best start of the year. Greg Burke finished the seventh inning for Wolf, who was at 112 pitches when he left the game, and Miguel Castro got through the ninth with just one hit allowed.

Making his Triple-A debut, Jon Berti was 1/4 with two runs while Alex Hassan (2/4, 2B, R, 2 RBI), Dalton Pompey (2/3, 2 BB, 2B, 2 R, CS) and Andy Burns (2/3, BB) had two hits each. Melky Mesa was 1/4 with a three-run home run.

Roster Notes: IF Jon Berti was promoted from New Hampshire and Luke Scott was placed on the DL.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Harrisburg Senators 2

 

K.C. Hobson was the hero in the 10th inning, slamming a solo blast in the 10th ining to break a 2-2 tie after Roemon Fields singled home Jorge Flores in the ninth to tie the game. Fields was 2/5 with the RBI while Kevin Nolan (2/5, 2B, 3B, RBI), Flores (2/4, 2B, R) and Hobson (2/5, HR, RBI, R) all had two hits. Shane Opitz was 3/5 but didn’t figure into any of the scoring. Austin Bibens-Dirkx had a strong game, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Wil Browning pitched 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball and Colt Hynes picked up the win with 2 1/3 innings without allowing a run.

Roster Notes: Jon Berti was sent to Buffalo while Christian Lopes came back to New Hampshire from Dunedin.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Daytona Tortugas 3

 

Despite 10 hits, the Dunedin Blue Jays couldn’t score beyond the first inning of Monday’s game against the Daytona Tortugas and lost 3-2. Mitch Nay had three hits including a triple and both RBI while Andy Fermin was 2/4 and Anthony Alford was 2/4. 20-year-old Conner Greene was cruising through the first four innings after stranding allowing the first two batters of the game to reach. Giving up just a walk and two hits through four innings, Greene had struck out four. In the fifth, however, he allowed four more hits, culminating in all three Daytona runs and, despite striking out two more batters, Greene ended up taking the loss. Alberto Tirado provided two perfect innings of relief while Brady Dragmire faced the minimum, allowing just one hit over two innings, striking out one.

Roster Notes: Christian Lopes was promoted to New Hampshire and Dickie Joe Thon was activated off the temporarily inactive list.

Lansing Lugnuts 9, Great Lakes Loons 6

Despite only eight hits, the Lansing Lugnuts powered their way to nine runs in a 9-6 victory over the Great Lakes Loons. Jesus Tinoco was touched for four runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts in five innings while Colton Turner allowed two more runs on four hits and a walk in two innings. Jesus Fernandez allowed just two hits over two innings to pick up his eighth save of the year.

On the offensive side, Josh Almonte and Austin Davis had multi-hit games with both of them picking up a single and a double with Almonte adding a walk and two runs and Davis driving in one. Juan Kelly was 1/3 with a three-run home run in the second inning and Alex Maldonado was 1/5 with a home run, two stolen bases and two runs.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Eugene Emeralds 0

A young, Canadian prospect took a major step back to competition as Tom Robson had a tremendous outing for the Vancouver Canadians on his road back from Tommy John surgery. Robson went three no-hit innings, giving up just one walk with five strikeouts before Francisco Rios completed the shutout with six innings of five-hit ball and striking out two.

The offense continued to click, pounding out 12 hits and striking out just once. Andrew Guillotte was 2/4 with a double and a walk, scoring three times while Justin Atkinson also had a double and a walk, driving in two runs. Carl Wise and Earl Burl III both had two hits and an RBI with Burl taking a walk and hitting a double.

Player of the Game: Francisco Rios and Tom Robson

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 11, Johnson City Cardinals 3

 

With 16 hits, the Bluefield Blue Jays cruised to victory in Game 1 of the double header against the Johnson City Cardinals. Juan Tejada led the way with a 3/4 game, hitting a single, a double and a home run and driving in two. Five players had two hits including Rodrigo Orozco (2/4, 2B, HR, BB, 3 R, 2 RBI), Yeltsin Gudino (2/4, 2B, RBI, R), D.J. McKnight (2/3, BB, 2B, RBI, 2 R), Gabe Clark (2/4, HR, R, 2 RBI) and Deiferson Barreto (2/3, BB, R, RBI).

Juliandry Higuera allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings, giving up five hits without any walks and three strikeouts. Joe Claver finished the game with two innings of three-hit ball.

Bluefield Blue Jays 5, Johnson City Cardinals 2

 

In Game 2 of the double header, the Blue Jays continued their winning ways, riding a strong start from Tayler Saucedo to another win. Saucedo went five innings, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks while striking out four. Tyler Burden was touched for a run over one inning and Zach Rodgers picked up his second save of the year, giving up a hit in his scoreless inning of relief. Nick Sinay was the only Blue Jay with more than one hit, going 2/4 and Gabe Clark drove in two with a double and Andres Sotillo was 1/3 with a two-run home run.

Player of the Game: Tayler Saucedo

 

GCL Blue Jays 3, GCL Astros 2

 

The GCL Blue Jays rode good pitching to a win, getting five strong innings from Justin Maese who allowed one run on six hits with three strikeouts. Hansel Rodriguez had a good outing, giving up just one unearned run on four hits over four innings with two strikeouts. The offense was quiet with just five hits. Edward Olivares drove in two runs with a triple and Kalik May and Juandy Mendoza each hit a double.

Roster Notes: Jose Nova came up to the GCL Blue Jays while the Jays sent Juan Meza down to the DSL.

Player of the Game: Justin Maese and Hansel Rodriguez

 

DSL Blue Jays 6, DSL White Sox 0

 

The DSL Blue Jays pushed their record to 26-17 with a white-washing of the White Sox on Monday. Yennsy Diaz went six innings of three-hit, two-walk ball, striking out five while Juan Meza, back in the Dominican Republic, finished the game with three innings of no-hit ball, walking one and striking out five. The offense had just seven hits overall, getting a double from Sam Buelens and a single and two walks from Norberto Obeso.

Roster Notes: Jose Nova moved up the GCL while Juan Meza came down to the DSL.

Player of the Game: Yennsy Diaz and Juan Meza
