With 10 games on the schedule for the Blue Jays’ minor leaguers, nine were actually played and the Jays won five of them although there was only one win among the four full-season clubs.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 5

 

The Buffalo Bisons’ offense has been stymied by the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders’ pitching, scoring only three runs in their last three games. This time, the Bisons got their run on an RBI double by Melky Mesa who was 1/3 with a walk. Jesus Montero was 2/4 with a double and Darrell Ceciliani hit a triple.

Chris Leroux threw 7 2/3 innings for the Bisons, allowing four runs on six hits and only one walk while striking out seven. Dustin Antolin inherited two runners and wasn’t able to keep them from scoring, also allowing an unearned run of his own to score in just 1/3 of an inning. Chad Girodo allowed two hits but pitched a scoreless ninth.

Player of the Game: Melky Mesa and Jesus Montero

Roster Notes: The Blue Jays optioned Bo Schultz to Buffalo and called up Aaron Loup and Drew Hutchison. Bobby Korecky and Luis Hurtado were activated off the DL.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 2, Binghamton Mets 9

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats opened their second consecutive double header with the Binghamton Mets with a 9-2 loss. Jeremy Gabryszwski was charged with eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits including a whopping four home runs in five innings. Matt Dermody allowed a run on two hits and a walk with a strikeout in his inning of work.

Rowdy Tellez was 2/3 with a double and an RBI while Dwight Smith, Jr. and Shane Opitz each had a hit.

Roster Notes: Matt Dean was placed on the DL and Emilio Guerrero was promoted from Dunedin to take his roster spot.

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 12, Binghamton Mets 5

Game Two of the double header allowed the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to split the double header and the offense exploded for 12 runs on 15 hits. Rowdy Tellez had three of the hits, going 3/4 with a walk and was a double shy of the cycle, driving in four runs. Christian Lopes was 4/5 with two doubles and two runs while Dwight Smith, Jr. (2/5, 2 R, HR, R, SB), Jorge Saez (2/4, 2B, R, 2 RBI) and Ian Parmley (2/4, 3B, 3 RBI) had two hits apiece. Roemon Fields scored twice, going 1/4 with a double and an RBI, stealing a base.

Conner Greene‘s return to Double-A wasn’t exactly a dominating outing as he allowed five runs (four earned) on three hits (including a home run) and three walks with four strikeouts over five innings. Wil Browning threw the final two innings, walking one and striking out four.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Tampa Yankees 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays fell to the Tampa Yankees by a 4-2 score which, coincidentally, was the exact same score as the game before. Chris Rowley had another good start for the Dunedin Blue Jays, allowing only two runs on seven hits and one walk over seven innings with four strikeouts. Adonys Cardona allowed two runs (one earned) over 2/3 of an inning but Brad Allen was able to strand the two runners he inherited. Carlos Ramirez finished the game with a scoreless ninth.

The Blue Jays had just four hits including a two-run home run for Ryan McBroom. Anthony Alford was 1/4 with a stolen base and three strikeouts.

Roster Notes: OF Andrew Guillotte was promoted from Lansing to Dunedin and Emilio Guerrero was promoted to New Hampshire.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, South Bend Cubs 3

 

Despite a solid performance by Angel Perdomo, the Lansing Lugnuts’ offense was held in check by the South Bend Cubs in a 3-1 loss. Perdomo went 5 2/3 innings with two runs against (coming off a two-run home run), giving up seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Daniel Lietz finished the sixth inning, getting one out (likely because, at 97 pitches, Perdomo had exceeded his pitch count) and Tom Robson allowed the last run on a solo home run among four hits over two innings.

The offense was quiet with just four singles.

Roster Notes: Andrew Guillotte was promoted to the Dunedin Blue Jays and Andrew Case was sent on a rehab assignment to the GCL Blue Jays.

 

Vancouver Canadians 2, Spokane Indians 1

 

The Vancouver pitching staff followed a shutout by holding the Spokane Indians to just one run despite their 12 hits on Saturday, beating them 2-1. The game was deadlocked at one for most of it, with both teams scoring in the third inning. In the bottom of the ninth, the Canadians walked off after Javier Hernandez singled home  J.B. Woodman with two outs to win the game. Both Woodman and Hernandez had two hits (including a double each) while Woodman also took a walk. Mattingly Romanin followed up his Canada Day home run with a 2/3 game, playing third base.

Andy Ravel made the start for Vancouver, throwing three innings and allowing five hits and one run. Mike Ellenbest threw the next three innings, allowing five hits without giving up a run. Evan Smith allowed a hit and two walks but, thanks to Jackson McClelland stranding two runners, wasn’t charged with a run over 1 1/3 innings. McClelland got the win, scattering a hit and walk over 1 2/3 innings.

Bluefield Blue Jays 8, Elizabethton Twins 5

 

The ball was flying out of the stadium in Elizabethton but despite hitting one fewer home run, the Blue Jays scored more runs where it counted, beating the Twins 8-5. Ridge Smith was 2/4 with a triple and a home run, driving in one and scoring twice while Nash Knight was 2/4 with a home run and three RBI. Jesus Severino was 2/3 with an RBI and a run while Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. was 1/4 with a walk and two stolen bases.

Jose Nova allowed two home runs on the mound, giving up five hits and two walks, adding up to three runs in 4 2/3 innings. Yennsy Diaz got the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits (including a home run) and striking out five over 4 1/3 innings.

GCL Blue Jays 15, GCL Pirates 5

 

The Blue Jays beat up on the Pirates yet again, getting a couple of home runs in a 15-5 win on Saturday. Javier Monzon was 3/5 and a double short of the cycle, hitting his first professional home run in the US, and driving in two runs. Kevin Vicuna (2/2, RBI, 2 R), Norberto Obeso (2/4, BB, 3 R, RBI, SB) and David Jacob (2/5, 2B, 4 RBI, R) all had two hits and Ryan Gold was 1/1 with an RBI, a double, two walks and three runs.

Guadalupe Chavez had a great outing on the mound, giving up just three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in five innings. Andrew Case threw two innings without giving up a hit or a walk, striking out three but Juan Meza got into trouble, allowing four runs in 1/3 of an inning, giving up three hits and three walks. Orlando Pascual allowed an inherited runner to score (of the three he was saddled with) and gave up an unearned run of his own in 1 2/3 innings.

Roster Notes: Andrew Case was assigned to the GCL Blue Jays for rehab.

 

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL Orioles1 1

 

The Blue Jays didn’t have a double header with the Orioles but still won the one game they played, beating the birds 5-1. Maximo Castillo allowed just one hit over the first three innings of the game while Alvaro Galindo allowed one run on seven hits in five innings but struck out eight. Adams Cuevas allowed a walk but nothing more in the ninth.

While they scored five times, the Blue Jays had 11 hits, getting at least one from every man in the lineup except Andres Guerra. Yorman Rodriguez (2/5, RBI), Yhordegny Kelly (2/4, R) and Yeison Estevez (2/4, R) had multi-hit games while Luis De Los Santos (1/4, BB, R) and Jesus Navarro (1/3, R, BB) had a hit and a walk each.
