The Jays finally won a game, shutting down the Texas Rangers thanks to an outstanding performance by Marcus Stroman who allowed four hits and no walks over seven scoreless innings.
Buffalo Bisons 1, Pawtucket Red Sox 3
Despite some solid pitching from Raul Valdes, it was the home run that made it a rough night for the Bisons as Valdes allowed two solo shots to give the Red Sox enough runs for a win on this night. Kyle Drabek allowed the third run in his inning of work but struck out the side. The Bisons offense didn’t get much going but Ryan Goins continued to swing a hot bat, going 2/4 with a double and an RBI. Kevin Pillar, Brad Glenn and Ryan Schimpf also hit doubles for the Herd.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Portland Sea Dogs 10
In what has become a rarity, Daniel Norris got demolished by the Portland Sea Dogs, allowing eight runs on eight hits but only walked one and struck out five through three innings (plus five batters). He left the game after getting hit on the hand by a comebacker although he didn’t appear to be injured, making an attempt on the play (the throw pulled K.C. Hobson off the bag at first). Scott Gracey allowed another two runs but struck out seven in 2 2/3 innings while Tyler Ybarra was perfect through 2 1/3 innings and Randy Boone retired the last three batters in order. The Fisher Cats had 11 hits including a single and a double from Dalton Pompey who drove in a run and stole a base. Andy Burns hit a single and a triple, as did Matt Newman. K.C. Hobson got in on the single/double action, driving in a run while Jorge Flores went 2/4.

Dunedin Blue Jays 12, Jupiter Hammerheads 7
When the Dunedin Blue Jays’ original plan of “don’t let them score runs” failed, they turned it over to the offense which obliged the pitching staff for 12 runs on 13 hits. Christian Lopes had three hits including a double and scored three times while Nick Baligod, at the top of the order, also had three hits and drove in four. Emilio Guerrero, Dwight Smith, Jr. and Santiago Nessy all had two hits that included a double and Smith and Nessy each drove in a pair of runs. Sean Nolin made a rehab start, going 2 2/3 innings and allowing a run on two hits and two walks but he struck out five batters. Ben White allowed five runs on seven hits over just two innings and it was Griffin Murphy to the rescue; he threw 2 1/3 innings of one-hit, one-walk ball with two strikeouts.
Roster Notes: SS Shane Opitz was activated off the DL and 1B L.B. Dantzler was placed on the DL.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, Clinton Lumberkings 6
Brad Allen struck out seven batters but it wasn’t enough as he allowed three runs (two earned) over 5 1/3 innings to take his third loss of the season. Matt Dermody allowed the other three runs over the final 3 2/3 innings of the game. Chaz Frank had three hits while Matt Dean had two (including a double) and a walk and D.J. Davis added another pair of hits for the Lugnuts.

Vancouver Canadians 12, Tri-City Dust Devils 2
The Canadians’ bats just kept on rolling but the pitching staff got things together much more effectively on Saturday night. Jairo Labourt continued his return to form with six scoreless innings, allowing three hits and two walks, striking out four batters. Tim Mayza and Mark Biggs each allowed a run (Mayza’s was unearned) finishing up the game. Franklin Barreto hit his first home run of the year, going 2/5 with three runs and three RBI. Chris Carlson and Alexis Maldonado each had three hits with Maldonado hitting a double and scoring three times while Sean Hurley was 2/4 with a double, a walk, two RBI and three runs scored. Max Pentecost also had three hits, hitting a triple and driving in a run.

Bluefield Blue Jays 3, Pulaski Mariners 2
Matt Smoral had one of his best outings, striking out nine batters over five innings and allowing just two hits and one walk. Francisco Rios allowed the other run (unearned) over 3 1/3 innings. The batters only scored three times, despite knocking out 10 hits including three from Richard Urena (3/5, 2B, 2 RBI), two from Trent Miller (2/3, BB, 2B, RBI) and two from Dan Jansen (2/3, 2 2B).

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Yankees2 9
2014 third-round pick Nick Wells was on the hill for the GCL Jays and he was hit hard, allowing six runs in 2 1/3 innings. Conner Greene righted the ship, throwing five innings and giving up just one unearned run on four hits and two walks. Deiferson Barreto had a pair of hits including a double while Edwin Fuentes and Angel Gomez each had three hits including a triple with Gomez driving in three runs.
