July 18, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

Raffy Lopez

With everyone in action but the Lansing Lugnuts, the Blue Jays’ minor league organization had a 6-2 record overall thanks to a double header sweep in the GCL that saw one of the two Jays’ first rounders make his pro debut.

 

Buffalo Bisons 10, Columbus Clippers 4

 

The Buffalo Bisons started a winning streak, finding some offense and beating up on the Columbus Clippers and winning by a 10-4 score. The Bisons got three run home runs from Mike Ohlman (2/3, HR, 3 RBI, R, BB) and Raffy Lopez (2/4, HR, BB, 3 RBI, 2 R) while Michael Saunders hit two doubles, drove in two runs and scored. Gregorio Petit also had two hits, going 2/5 with an RBI and two runs.

T.J. House provided a solid start, going five innings and giving up two runs on four hits and two walks with six strikeouts. Tim Mayza had two excellent innings in relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three. Matt Dermody got into trouble in the eighth, giving up a two-run home run among three hits and a walk while Wil Browning finished the game, striking out one in the ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Reading Fightin Phils 2

 

Jon Harris

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats got a great start from Jon Harris along the way to a 5-2 victory over the Reading Fightin Phils. Harris gave up one run on just four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings to get the win. Dusty Isaacs earned the save, allowing one run on two hits (including a solo home run) with two strikeouts over the final two frames.

Tim Lopes hit a two-run home run, going 3/4 with a double and three RBI while Jonathan Davis was perfect, going 2/2 with a home run, two walks, two RBI and a stolen base. Ryan McBroom was 1/3 with a walk and a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 0, Clearwater Threshers 6

 

Vladimir Guerrero

The Dunedin Blue Jays were shut out by the Clearwater Threshers, losing 6-0 on Tuesday. The two newest (and youngest )D-Jays, Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. combined for five of the club’s six hits with Guerrero going 3/4 and Bichette going 2/4. Connor Panas had three walks and hit a double, going 1/1.

Ryan Borucki was victimized by the long ball, giving up two home runs among six hits for four runs over six innings with six strikeouts. Ryan Cook allowed another home run, a two-run shot, accounting for both of the runs he allowed in the seventh, despite striking out two. Adonys Cardona gave up a hit and struck out one in the eighth.

Roster Notes: Patrick Murphy was assigned to the GCL Blue Jays to begin his rehab assignment.

 

Vancouver Canadians 7, Hillsboro Hops 19

 

The Vancouver Canadians’ luck with the Hillsboro Hops continues to worsen as the Canadians found themselves on the receiving end of a 19-7 drubbing on Tuesday. Wilfri Aleton was the starter and allowed seven runs through 4 1/3 innings on 10 hits and two walks before Miguel Burgos was victimized by four unearned run (despite giving up a home run) on three hits in 1 2/3 innings. Orlando Pascual struck out the side in the seventh, giving up one hit and William Ouelette and Bobby Eveld combined to pitch the eighth with Ouellette getting charged with five runs on four hits (including a home run) and one walk in 1/3 of an inning. Eveld allowed a hit and threw a wild pitch, allowing his inherited runner to score but wasn’t charge with any of his own runs. Matt Morgan pitched the ninth, allowing three runs on two hits (including a home run) and a walk with one strikeout.

David Jacob was a bright light on offense, hitting his second home run of the year, and going 2/4 with four RBI. Kacy Clemens walked three times, scoring twice and driving in a run while Brandon Polizzi was 1/2 with a double. Owen Spiwak also hit a double and Deiferson Barreto was 1/3 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Bluefield Blue Jays 2, Kingsport Mets 1

 

Randy Pondler

The Bluefield Blue Jays needed extra innings but emerged victorious over the Kingsport Mets, winning on a walk-off triple from Ryan Noda in the bottom of the 11th to win 2-1. For Noda, it was his second RBI as he hit a home run in the fourth inning, accounting for both of the club’s runs. Noda added a walk and was 2/4. Brandon Grudzielanek also hit a double, as did Tanner Kirwer.

Randy Pondler had an excellent start, going six innings and allowing just three hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Mitch McKown blew the save, giving up a run on two hits despite striking out four in two innings of work. Graham Spraker struck out three in two innings, allowing one hit and Joe DiBenedetto pitched a clean 11th to earn the win.

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Tigers East 0

 

The GCL Blue Jays won the first half of their double header with the GCL TIgers East, beating them 2-0. The big story was the professional debut of first-rounder Nate Pearson who struck out two and gave up one hit in one inning. Elieser Medrano followed, striking out six in five innings, giving up just three hits and Gaudy Ramirez finished the shutout, striking out the side in the seventh.

The batters had just four hits including two from D.J. Neal who was 2/3 with a run. Emilio Guerrero, rehabbing from injury, was 1/3 with a double and two RBI.

GCL Blue Jays 4, GCL Tigers East 1

 

Joseph Reyes

In Game 2 of the double header, the GCL Blue Jays completed the sweep of the GCL Tigers East with a 4-1 win. Patrick Murphy got two innings of work in and didn’t allow a hit, walking one and striking out three. Claudio Galva tossed four innings of scoreless ball, allowing three hits and striking out one and Emmanuel Reyes allowed an unearned run on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts in the seventh.

Hagen Danner drove in two runs with a double while Joseph Reyes also drove in a pair, going 1/3 with a run.

DSL Blue Jays 3, DSL Mariners 0

 

The DSL Blue Jays shut out the DSL Mariners, beating them 3-0 on Tuesday. Hugo Cardona was 2/3 with a double, an RBI and a run while Kenny Mauricio was 2/2 with a walk and an RBI. Rafael Lantigua was 1/4 with a triple.

Nathanael Perez was very strong, getting his third win and going five innings with just two hits and a walk against him, striking out eight. Luis Mendoza tossed two shutout innings while Nicolas Medina and Yunior Hinojosa finished the game with a scoreless inning each.
