The Blue Jays’ minor leaguers totaled three wins in eight games on Friday night, giving them their best tally since the All-Star game but not a great one in the grand scheme of things.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3

 

The offensively challenged Buffalo Bisons continued to struggle with the bats, losing 3-1 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. The Bisons got tremendous work from Cesar Valdez who tossed seven innings of one-run ball, keeping the Bisons tied, giving up four hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Joe Smith pitched a scoreless eighth but it was J.P. Howell who gave up three hits and a walk, allowing a run and leaving the bases loaded for Murphy Smith. Smith allowed one of the runners to score leaving Howell with the loss and two runs allowed (one earned).

The Bisons combined for six hits including two each from Jason Leblebijian and Rowdy Tellez who each hit a double with Leblebijian driving in the club’s only run.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 15, Portland Sea Dogs 8

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats bats awoke with a vengeance, scoring 15 runs on 18 hits despite not hitting any home runs in a 15-8 win over the Portland Sea Dogs. Four Fisher Cats had three hits each including Richard Urena (3/6, 2B, 3 R), Danny Jansen (3/4, 2B, BB, RBI, 3 R), Ryan McBroom (3/5, 2 RBI, 2 R), and Lourdes Gurriel (3/5, 2 2B, 4 RBI, 2 R). Harold Ramirez also drove in four runs, going 2/3 with a double and two walks, four RBI and three runs. Derrick Loveless was 2/5 with two RBI.

Shane Dawson picked up his second win of the season, going five innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on nine hits and six walks with one strikeout. Justin Shafer allowed another two runs on two hits and two walks in one inning and Kender Villegas got a three-inning save, allowing just a hit and a walk and striking out two.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Tampa Yankees 8

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays were trailing by five runs after three innings but, despite a valiant attempt at a comeback, finished with an 8-7 loss to the Tampa Yankees. The Blue Jays outhit the Yankees, getting 14 hits including three from Cavan Biggio, who hit a double. Bo Bichette was 2/5 with an RBI and a run while Vladimir Guerrero, Jr was 2/4 with a walk and a run. Juan Kelly was 2/4 with an RBI and a run and Michael De La Cruz drove in two runs, scoring once and going 2/5. Connor Panas was also 2/4 with an RBI. Anthony Alford was 1/3 before coming out of the game for D.J. Davis.

Jordan Romano had a rough start, tossing just three innings and giving up eight runs (seven earned) on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Daniel Lietz threw three scoreless innings, allowing just three hits while Tom Robson and Jackson McClelland each threw a scoreless frame, striking out one.

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Beloit Snappers 2

 

The Lansing Lugnuts picked up their first win against the Beloit Snappers in this series, beating them 3-2 at home on Friday night. Edward Olivares led the offense with his 15th home run, a solo shot in the sixth inning and was 2/3. Mattingly Romanin also drove in a run, going 1/3 with a double and Javier Hernandez drove in a run, going 1/3.

Yennsy Diaz went five innings, allowing three hits and three walks, totalling just one run, and striking out four. Griffin Glaude blew the save, giving up a run on two hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings, but ultimately got the win. Jared Carkuff got the save, stranding the two runners he inherited and pitching 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball, giving up a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.

Vancouver Canadians 4, Spokane Indians 3

 

The Vancouver Canadians needed two runs in the bottom of the 12th inning to top the Spokane Indians 4-3 on Friday. The walkoff was generated by a leadoff double from Reggie Pruitt, who came to third on a groundout. Logan Warmoth drove him in with a single and Riley Adams was the hero, hitting another double (his 11th) to left, scoring Warmoth for the win. For Warmoth, it was his fourth hit as he was 4/6 with two doubles and an RBI in addition to his run. Brandon Polizzi had three hits including a double and two RBI. Reggie Pruitt was 2/6 with a double and a run while Kevin Vicuna was 2/6 with a double and Riley Adams was 2/6 with the double.

Zach Logue started and struck out five batters in two innings, giving up an unearned run on a hit and a walk. Brayden Bouchey walked one in the third before Justin Dillon tossed two scoreless frames, striking out one. Miguel Burgos added three scoreless innings to the count, giving up a hit and two walks with one strikeout. Orlando Pascual threw another three innings, blowing the save and giving up a run on six hits (including a solo home run) with three strikeouts. Grayson Huffman allowed a run in the top of the 12th but still came away with the win.

Roster Notes: Zach Logue was assigned to Vancouver.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 0, Greeneville Astros 11

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays were shut out, losing 11-0 to the Greeneville Astros. The batters had six hits including three from Chavez Young and two (including a triple) from Antony Fuentes.

Elio Silva had a strong start, going five innings and giving up only one hit and one walk with seven strikeouts. Joel Espinal gave up eight runs over two innings and Jose Nova allowed another three runs in the eighth. Mitch McKown tossed a scoreless ninth, allowing two hits.

Roster Notes: Zach Logue was promoted to the Vancouver Canadians.

 

GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Phillies 5

 

The GCL Blue Jays were also shut out, losing 5-0 to the GCL Phillies. The Blue Jays had six hits including a double from Luis De Los Santos.

Alvery De Los Santos allowed all five runs in his three innings of work, giving up five hits and a walk with one strikeout. Claudio Galva tossed three scoreless innings and Danilo Manzueta and Juan Meza each provided a scoreless inning.

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Patrick Morris was assigned to the GCL Blue Jays.

 

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Reds 3

 

The DSL Blue Jays lost again to the DSL Reds 3-1 on Friday. The Blue Jays had just four hits including two from Hector Guerrero who was 2/3 with a double and a walk.

Emanuel Vizcaino went five innings, giving up three runs (one earned) on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Juan Diaz tossed two scoreless innings, striking out two and Elixon Caballero threw a scoreless frame, also striking out two.
