July 13, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

In seven games on Thursday, the Blue Jays’s minor league clubs went 2-5 despite some roster shuffling in the upper levels as the Buffalo Bisons and New Hampshire Fisher Cats returned to action.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 6

 

Jon Berti

The Buffalo Bisons returned from the All-Star break only to be befallen by the same trouble scoring that they had for the last month, losing 6-1 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Jon Berti accounted for the Bisons’ only run, going 1/3 with a solo home run while Roemon Fields and Gregorio Petit each had two hits. Rowdy Tellez was 1/4 with a double and Andrew Guillotte was 1/3.

T.J. House started for the Bisons, giving up five runs on seven hits and four walks ove rsix innings. Matt Dermody followed with a perfect seventh and Wil Browning put up a zero in the eight despite walking two. Dominic Leone allowed one more RailRidrers run in the ninth.

Roster Notes: Andrew Guillotte was promoted back to Buffalo from New Hampshire.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Portland Sea Dogs 6

 

An All-Star hosting hangover must have afflicted the New Hampshire Fisher Cats who dropped their first game after the break 6-1 to the Portland Sea Dogs. Jon Harris started and gave up six runs (three earned) on seven hits (including two home runs) and two walks with four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. Danny Young finished the sixth and provided a scoreless seventh, striking out a pair while Carlos Ramirez struck out two in the eighth, walking one. Andrew Case finished it with a perfect ninth.

The batters combined for six hits including two by Richard Urena and a double by Lourdes Gurriel, playing second base in his first Double-A game.

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Jake Thomas was promoted from Dunedin to New Hampshire and righty John Straka, who started five games for the Fisher Cats last year, was signed and assigned to the Fisher Cats.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Tampa Yankees 4

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays lost the second game of their series to the Tampa Yankees, wasting a strong start from Ryan Borucki and falling 4-2. Borucki went seven innings, giving up a run on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts before Philip Walby couldn’t contain the Yankees, giving up three runs in the eight to take the loss.

Bo Bichette had a very Bo Bichette-like game, going 3/5 with a stolen base and a caught stealing, adding an error in the field while Vladimir Guerrero was 2/4 in his second game in the Florida State League. Connor Panas hit a double and threw a runner out at home and D.J. Davis was 1/3 with an RBI and a run.

Roster Notes: Jake Thomas was promoted from Dunedin to New Hampshire.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 6, Beloit Snappers 7

 

Andres Sotillo

The Lansing Lugnuts continued the disappointing day for the Blue Jays’ minor league organization, coughing up their lead in the final two frames to lose 7-6 to the Beloit Snappers. Andrews Sotillo had three hits and two RBI while Mitch Nay was 2/5 with a double, a triple, an RBI and a run and Ridge Smith was 2/5 with a double, two RBI and a run.

Mike Ellenbest was on the mound to start, tossing six innings and giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks with just one strikeout. Geno Encina took the loss, throwing the final three innings and giving up three runs on five hits and three walks with a strikeout.

Player of the Game: Andres Sotillo and Mitch Nay

 

Vancouver Canadians 5, Spokane Indians 3

 

The Vancouver Canadians and the Spokane Indians got all of the scoring out of the way early with the Canadians coming out on top 5-3. While the offense stagnated after their second inning, it was enough as the bullpen did a stellar job in the win. Offense in the first inning was provided by Riley Adams who is proving to be more than a match for the Northwest League. Adams pushed his batting average to .386 with his second home run of the season, going 2/3 with a walk and three RBI. David Jacob (2/4) and Brandon Polizzi (2/3, 3B, BB, R, SB) also had two hits each while Reggie Pruitt was 1/4 with a walk, a double and a stolen base and Logan Warmoth was 1/4 in his NWL debut.

Donnie Sellers allowed two runs on five hits in 2 2/3 innings but struck out five and didn’t walk anyone in his start while Chris Hall earned the win, allowing a run as he came into the game, finishing the third, but held the Indians scoreless for another four innings, giving up just one hit (on a solo home run) in 4 1/3 with four strikeouts. Jake Fishman and William Ouellette pitched a scoreless frame each to preserve the win.

Player of the Game: Riley Adams

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 10, Greeneville Astros 9

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays overcame a six-run deficit to hold on to beat the Greeneville Astros 10-9 for their 14th win of the season. Kevin Smith was 3/5 with two doubles and an RBI while Antony Fuentes hit his third home run of the year, going 2/5 with two runs. Ryan Gold (2/5, 2B, 3 RBI, R), McGregory Contreras (2/2, 2 R, BB, SB) and Yorman Rodriguez (2/4, RBI, R) also had two hits each. Jesus Severino was 1/4 with a walk but hit his second home run of the year, driving in two.

The pitching wasn’t as tight in this game as starter Maximo Castillo surrendered six runs (five earned) on seven hits (including a home run) with four strikeouts in four innings. Tyler Olander gave up two more runs in the fifth, but Marcus Reyes held the fort, allowing just two hits over three innings and striking out six. Ty Tice earned his fourth save with an unearned run allowed on two hits and a walk, striking out two in the ninth.

GCL Blue Jays, GCL Tigers West

 

Game postponed due to rain.

 

DSL Blue Jays 1, DSL Reds 5

 

The DSL Blue Jays lost to the DSL Reds 5-1 on Thursday. Rafael Lantigua had another three-hit  game, going 3/4 with a triple, a walk and a run. Andres Martinez and Yeison Estevez were each 2/4 in the loss.

Luis Alvarez started, giving up two runs on four hits and a walk in two innings while Adolfo Molina allowed two more runs on four hits with one strikeouts in three innings. Yohandy Martir struck out two in two innings, giving up a run on three hits. Brayan Mejia and Geremy Jimenez each threw a scorless inning to finish the game.
