Jordan Romano to Require Tommy John Surgery

Piling on the injuries that the Blue Jays have undergone this spring, Markham, Ontario born reliever Jordan Romano has torn his UCL and will undergo Tommy John surgery next week.

While Romano might not be one of the best-known names in the Blue Jays minor league system, he made a big impression on me when I saw him pitch last week. As I wrote last week (membership required), Romano was throwing 93-94 mph with all kinds of movement and I was looking forward to seeing him pitch in Lansing at the start of the season.  Romano went to Oral Roberts University after playing at Father Michael McGivney Catholic School in Markham and was selected by the Blue Jays in the 10th round last year and signed for $25,000.

Now, Romano has a tough year in front of him as he undergoes surgery next week and has a year of rehab. Fortunately, he’s not trying to rehab the injury and having the surgery early so that he can get back to game action, probably in April. We wish Romano the best of luck in his rehab and getting back to the baseball field as soon as possible.
