The Dunedin Blue Jays evened their best-of-three series with the Tampa Yankees after a wild finish to an 8-4 game that went 15 innings.
The two clubs have now played two games and battled through 28 innings with the visiting side winning both. On Wednesday, a series of Tampa defensive miscues and wild pitching gave the Dunedin Blue Jays the win with four runs in the top of the 15th inning. Tied at four after the Blue Jays had squandered two one-run leads, D.J. Davis reached base via a strikeout and a wild pitch while Jorge Flores walked. During Anthony Alford‘s at bat, the runners advanced two bases, one on an error by the Tampa shortstop on a pickoff attempt on Davis and then they advanced one more base (scoring Davis) on a wild pitch. John La Prise drove home Flores with a single before Jonathan Davis and Ryan McBroom walked. A fielding error allowed La Prise to score and Dickie Joe Thon to reach. Danny Jansen walked, scoring Davis, giving the Jays four runs with just one hit.
The Blue Jays certainly had their chances, with 17 hits on the game including five from Jonathan Davis who doubled, walked, stole a base, drove in a run and scored one. La Prise was 3/7 with a double, three RBI and a run while Anthony Alford (2/7, 2 2B, BB, 3 R), Danny Jansen (2/6, RBI, 2 BB) and Jorge Flores (2/6, BB, 2 R) each had two hits. The Jays missed chances to score in the 11th (two on, two out) and the 14th (two on, two out).
Jon Harris started on the mound, throwing 6 1/3 innings with just two runs against, giving up five hits (including a two-run home run) and one walk, striking out five. Tim Mayza (blown save) gave up a run on two hits and a walk with two hits but struck out five batters for all five of his outs. Carlos Ramirez (blown save) gave up an unearned run on two walks with one strikeout in one inning before Jose Fernandez took over, throwing 3 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, striking out five and giving up a hit and a walk. Francisco Rios finished the game for Dunedin, picking up the win and allowing two hits and two walks with one strikeouts but no runs in 2 2/3 innings.
