Canadians Eliminated in Finals: No Four-Peat in Vancouver

The Vancouver Canadians lost their second straight game despite a huge comeback performance out of the bullpen and an attempt to even the score that came up just short.

Vancouver Canadians 3, Hillboro Hops 4

One day after the bullpen coughed up a lead to lose the first game of the Northwest League finals, the bullpen was strong but the offense couldn’t overcome the four-run deficit that starter Matt Smoral allowed the Hillsboro Hops. Smoral only went 2 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits and three walks before Jonathan Wandling took over. Wandling went 2 1/3 innings and gave up just two hits and a walk. Andrew Case, the Canadians product of last year’s T-12 tournament, went 1 2/3 hitless innings, walking one and striking out another while Michael Kraft struck out three over 1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits.

The offense managed to score one run per inning in the fourth, sixth and seventh but couldn’t find the elusive tying run. Ryan McBroom drove in two, going 3/4 with a double while Jonathan Davis (2/4), Chris Carlson (2/4, 2 R, 2B), and Franklin Barreto (2/5, R) each had two hits.
