August 9, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Blue Jays’ minor league organization had a strong day, going 5-2 with the Lansing Lugnuts resting on Wednesday.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Indianapolis Indians 1

 

Jake Elmore

The Buffalo Bisons got three hits including a home run from Jake Elmore in defeating the Indianapolis Indians 3-1 on Wednesday. Elmore had a banner day while Shane Opitz was also 3/5 with a run. Rowdy Tellez was 2/4 and Roemon Fields was 1/3 with a double, a walk, two RBI and a stolen base. Dwight Smith Jr. and Mike Ohlman each went 1/4 with a walk.

Murphy Smith got the spot start with Nick Tepesch starting in Toronto. Smith tossed four strong innings, giving up just a run on a hit and a walk with four strikeouts. Jeff Beliveau got the win, going two hitless innings, striking out one and Carlos Ramirez, making his Triple-A debut, tossed two hitless innings, striking out four. Chris Smith got the save with a hitless ninth.

Player of the Game: Jake Elmore

Roster Notes: Nick Tepesch was brought up to Toronto and Mike Bolsinger was sent outright to Buffalo and Matt Dermody was optioned to Buffalo. Carlos Ramirez was promoted to Buffalo from New Hampshire and Lucas Harrell was placed on the 7-day DL.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Akron RubberDucks 9

 

Anthony Alford

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost their second game 9-4 against the Akron RubberDucks despite a solid start from Ryan Borucki. Borucki allowed just four hits but two were home runs as he gave up four runs (three earned) with seven strikeouts and two walks over 5 1/3 innings. Dusty Isaacs was hit up for four more runs (three earned) over 1 2/3 innings and Andrew Case gave up a run on two hits in the eighth.

Anthony Alford was 2/4 with a double and a run while Tim Lopes was 2/3 with a triple, an RBI and a run.

Roster Notes: Carlos Ramirez was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons and Emilio Guerrero was activated off the DL. Griffin Glaude was activated off the temporarily inactive list.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 16, Dayton Tortugas 8

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays went a little bananas, taking advantage of five errors and beating the Daytona Tortugas 16-8. Bo Bichette was 2/6 with an RBI and two runs while Chris Coghlan was 2/3 with two doubles and an RBI. D.J. Davis had a monster game, going 3/4 with two walks, a double, a home run, four RBI, four runs and a stolen base. Jake Thomas also hit a home run, going 2/5 with a dinger and three RBI.

Jordan Romano was hit hard, allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits and two walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Adonys Cardona earned the win, giving up just a hit and striking out one in 1 2/3 innings. Alonzo Gonzalez walked one in two innings while Daniel Lietz allowed a run on two hits in two innings with two strikeouts. Jackson McClelland pitched a clean ninth.

Vancouver Canadians 6, Tri-City Dust Devils 2

 

Kevin Vicuna

The Vancouver Canadians rebounded from being shut out on Tuesday with a 6-2 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils on Wednesday. Kevin Vicuna went 3/4 with three runs and Kacy Clemens was 2/4 with a walk and three RBI. Owen Spiwak was 2/3 with a walk and an RBI. David Jacob was 1/4 with a double, a run and an RBI and Reggie Pruitt was on base three times, going 1/3 with two walks and a run but was caught stealing in his only attempt.

Jose Espada allowed two runs on four hits (including a home run ) and a walk with two strikeouts in three innings. Bobby Eveld got the win, allowing just a hit and striking out one in two innings. Yonardo Herdenez struck out four in three hitless innings, walking two and Brayden Bouchey struck out two in the ninth, giving up a hit.

Bluefield Blue Jays 8, Danville Braves 7

 

McGregory Contreras

The Bluefield Blue Jays barely hung on but a win is a win as they defeated the Danville Braves 8-7 on Wednesday. McGregory Conteras went deep, going 2/4 with a double, a home run, two RBI and two runs. Kevin Smith was also 2/4, hitting two doubles, taking a walk, driving in one and scoring once. Ryan Noda was 1/4 with a double and an RBI.

Alvaro Galindo was the starter and he allowed four runs on five hits and two walks with one strikeout over five innings. Joel Espinal allowed another three runs on five hits over three innings, striking out three. Ty Tice struck out the side in the ninth around a hit and a walk for the save.

Player of the Game: McGregory Contreras

 

GCL Blue Jays 1, GCL Yankees East 5

 

The GCL Blue Jays lost to the GCL Yankees East 5-1. The club had just four hits including two from Davis Schneider who was 2/4 with a triple.

Felipe Castaneda took the loss, giving up three runs on five hits and four walks over three innings. Gaudy Ramirez was charged with the other two runs (one earned) over two innings, allowing only a hit and a walk with two strikeouts. Juan Meza threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits and Danilo Manzueta struck out two in two innings.

Player of the Game: Davis Schneider

Roster Notes: SS Evan McDonald retired.

 

DSL Blue Jays 4, DSL Orioles 1

 

The DSL Blue Jays were on the road facing the DSL Orioles and beat them 4-1. Five players had two hits each in the win with Jose Briceno going 2/3 with a walk, a stolen base and was caught stealing, Rafael Lantigua going 2/3 with an RBI, a run and a sacrifice fly, Hector Guerrero going 2/4 with two runs, Warnel Valdez going 2/4 and Yeison Estevez going 2/4. Victor Figuereo was 1/4 with a triple and an RBI.

Emanuel Vizcaino was excellent in his start, throwing five innings and giving up just three hits and one run with one walk and seven strikeouts. Elixon Caballero got the save, tossing four one-hit innings, striking out one and walking one.
