August 9, 2016 Minor League Report

Florida was rainy on Tuesday with both Dunedin teams getting rained out but the Jays’ minor league teams went 5-1 for the rest of their games.

Buffalo Bisons 9, Indianapolis Indians 3

 

The Bisons got two home runs and Jesus Montero had four hits as the offense found its groove against the Indianapolis Indians in a 9-3 win. Montero (now hitting .312) had a double among his hits, driving in a run and scoring a run. Junior Lake was 2/3 with a run, two walks and three RBI while Andy Burns (1/4) and A.J. Jimenez (2/4) each hit a home run. Dalton Pompey was 2/4 with a stolen base.

Scott Copeland picked up his first win with the Buffalo Bisons this year, going six innings and giving up a run on three hits (including a solo home run) and two walks, striking out six. Aaron Loup allowed a run on two hits and walk in his inning while Bo Schultz allowed a run on three hits in his inning of work. Chad Girodo gave up just ah it and a walk but no runs in the ninth.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6, Bowie Baysox 2

 

While starter Shane Dawson struggled with his control, the bullpen was outstanding in a 6-2 New Hampshire win opening their series with the Bowie Baysox. Dawson walked six batters, throwing 94 pitches over four innings, giving up two runs on three hits with one strikeout. Those two runs scored when Brady Dragmire came in with the bases loaded and no one out. Dragmier went on to pitch two innings without giving up a run of his own on two hits and one walk, striking out two. Colton Turner gave up a hit and a walk over 2/3 of an inning but Wil Browning bailed him out, stranding two runners and striking out three over 1 1/3 innings. Murphy Smith finished the game with a scoreless ninth, walking one and striking out one.

Christian Lopes had another great game, going 3/5 with a run, an RBI and a stolen base. Rowdy Tellez continues to swing a hot bat, pushing his batting average over the .300 mark (to .303) with a single, a double and two walks, driving in a run. Reese McGuire was 2/5 and Richard Urena (1/4, 2B, BB, RBI), Jon Berti (1/4, BB, 2 RBI, R, 2 SB), Ryan Lavarnway (1/4, BB) and Jason Leblebijian (1/4, BB, 2 R) were on base twice each.

Roster Notes: Matt Dean was assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays and John Anderson was activated off the DL. Jorge Saez was placed on the 7-day DL and Alonzo Gonzalez was promoted to New Hampshire from Dunedin.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays, Daytona Tortugas

 

Postponed due to rain.

Roster Notes: Matt Dean was activated from the DL and assigned to the Dunedin Blue Jays. Alonzo Gonzalez was promoted to New Hampshire.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 4, Fort Wayne TinCaps 3

 

In a 13-inning game, the Lugnuts walked off with a win thanks to the Carl Wise who singled with two outs to drive in Juan Kelly. For wise, it was the cap on his first game back after being activated off the DL. Wise went 4/6 with a walk and scoring a run. Andrew Guillotte had a 2/7 game, driving in a run and scoring in addition to his 17th stolen base of the year. J.C. Cardenas and Juan Kelly were also on base twice with a double and a walk each.

Angel Perdomo threw six scoreless innings for the Lugnuts, giving up just five hits and two walks with five strikeouts, needing just 88 pitches. Tom Robson allowed a solo home run among two hits over 1 2/3 innings. Daniel Young finished the eighth inning with a strikeout and Andrew Case came in for the ninth to nail down the win but allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Jackson Lowery pitched three hitless innings, striking out three and Tayler Saucedo earned his eighth win with a hitless 13th, striking out one.

Roster Notes: Carl Wise was activated off the DL.

 

Vancouver Canadians 0, Everett AquaSox 1

 

Despite outhitting the Everett AquaSox, the Vancouver Canadians couldn’t score and lost 1-0 on Tuesday. Patrick Murphy had a strong outing, allowing just three hits and no walks with four strikeouts over seven innings but the one run against was more than the Canadians could match. Zach Jackson threw 1 2/3 innings with Griffin Glaude getting the final out of the game.

Cavan Biggio was 2/3 with a walk while Andres Sotillo was 2/3 and Deiferson Barreto was 1/4 with a double.

Bluefield Blue Jays 9, Princeton Rays 1

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays got over being swept in a double header on Monday by beating up the Princeton Rays 9-1 on Tuesday. The Jays got three-hit games from organizational newcomers Vladimir Guerrero, Jr. and Javier Monzon. Guerrero went 3/5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored. Monzon, on the other hand, went 3/4 with a walk, two home runs and six RBI on the game. Reggie Pruitt was 1/3 with a walk, a stolen base and three RBI.

Osman Gutierrez picked up his third win, going six innings allowing an unearned run on eight hits and three walks with seven strikeouts. Connor Eller got a three-inning save, allowing just a hit and striking out two.

Player of the Game: Javier Monzon

 

GCL Blue Jays, GCL Yankees East

 

Double header postponed due to rain.

 

DSL Blue Jays 7, DSL Orioles1 5

 

The DSL Blue Jays’ offense woke up as the defeated the DSL Orioles by a 7-5 score. Mc Gregory Contreras had an outstanding game, going 2/3 with a walk and a double, driving in two runs, scoring once and stealing a base. Ronald Concepcion went 2/4 with a double and two runs. Yhordegny Kelly was on base twice with a single and a walk, scoring and driving in a run.

Anderson Nunez was the starting pitcher and he allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over 4 1/3 innings, striking out three. Jose Dominguez gave up two more runs on four hits and two walks in 2 2/3 innings. Oscar Brito got the win, throwing two one-hit innings to close out the game, striking out three.
