Last night’s Blue Jays loss was particularly ugly, seeing as Casey Janssen allowed two home runs in the ninth inning to seal a 5-4 loss to the Tigers. R.A. Dickey was solid and the rest of the relief corps (Dustin McGowan and Brett Cecil) was good.
Buffalo Bisons 4, Durham Bulls 3
A four-spot in the first inning was enough for the Bisons to hold off the Bulls last night in Durham. Cole Gillespie had a pair of hits and Andy LaRoche drove in three with a double. Brad Glenn drove in a run and was 0/2 but took two walks. Sean Nolin was fairly solid on the mound, allowing all three runs in one of his six innings of work but he struck out six batters with only one walk.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Akron RubberDucks 3
Despite a much better performance from Taylor Cole, who went seven innings and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks with six strikeouts, the Fisher Cats’ bats never got going. Jorge Flores had two hits including a double and Cory Aldridge was 1/3 with a home run.

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4
Ben White had a great start for the Blue Jays, allowing only one run on a solo blast and scattering six hits and two walks over six innings with eight strikeouts. Hunter Carnevale made his Dunedin debut (after getting traded from the Mets to the Jays for cash) and walked a man and got the other out on a ground ball. Arik Sikula picked up his 27th save. The offense was flying with 14 hits including three from the red-hot Christian Lopes. Lopes was 3/5 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Jorge Saez also had three hits including a triple and a walk and threw out one of two runners stealing. Nick Baligod was 2/4 while Pierce Rankin and Gustavo Pierre each had a single and a double.

Lansing Lugnuts 7, West Michigan Whitecaps 5
Chase De Jong made the start for the Lugnuts and picked up his first win of the season despite not having one of his better outings. He went five innings and allowed three runs on six hits and three walks with only two strikeouts. Jimmy Cordero allowed the other two runs in 1 2/3 innings. On the offensive side of things, Mitch Nay was 3/4 with a double and two RBI while Matt Dean was 2/4 with a home run and four RBI. D.J. Davis, who has been very quiet lately, had two hits, an RBI and a stolen base while Derrick Loveless was 2/4 with two runs scored.

Vancouver Canadians 2, Tri-City Dust Devils 6
Chase Mallard wasn’t hit hard but allowed three runs to the Dust Devils and picked up his second loss of the season. He allowed three hits and three walks but struck out six over four innings. Alberto Tirado had another struggling outing, walking four batters and giving up a run but didn’t allow a hit and struck out three in what appears to be a Jeckyl/Hyde act. The batters only had five hits and none went for extra bases.

Bluefield Blue Jays: Postponed due to rain
GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Phillies 7
Our friend down in Florida, Chris King, reported yesterday that it was the best outing he’s seen from Jacob Brentz. Brentz was the bright light in a fairly dismal game for the Blue Jays as he went four innings, allowing just two hits and a walk with five strikeouts.

DSL Blue Jays 10, DSL Braves 1
The pitching staff got things together for the DSL Jays on Friday, led by Luis Sanchez who threw five innings, giving up just one unearned run on five hits and one walk with five strikeouts. Denis Diaz and Jeffry Martinez each added two scoreless (and hitless) innings. Bryan Lizardo was 2/4 with a double and a triple, adding a walk and scoring three times while Edward Olivares was 2/2 with a walk and two runs scored. Francisco Rodriguez was 2/4 with a walk and an RBI and Jesus Severino drove in four runs on the game. Rodrigo Orozco was 0/1 but drove in a run and walked four times.

P.J. Walters faces Rays’ prospect Nathan Karns in a 7:05 PM duel on MiLB TV in Durham, North Carolina.
New Hampshire Fisher Cats (57-62)
An undetermined starter will go for the Fisher Cats tonight at 7:05 PM against the Akron RubberDucks on MiLB TV. I’d look for either Casey Lawrence or Richard Bleier to make the start.
Dunedin Blue Jays (69-48)
Lefty Matt Boyd takes the ball as the Blue Jays return home to face the Tampa Yankees at 6:30 PM.
Lansing Lugnuts (53-63)
Brad Allen is the starter for the Lugnuts as they face one of the top pitchers in the Midwest League, Kevin Ziomek, in their game at 7:05 PM against the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Vancouver Canadians (31-22)
Vancouver’s starter is undetermined (at least publicly) for tonight’s game in Tri-City against the Dust Devils. The radio broadcast will start at 10:15 PM ET.
Bluefield Blue Jays (22-25)
Lefty Evan Smith is scheduled to start game one of a double header at home against the Princeton Rays at 5:00 PM. Joey Aquino is expected to start game two.
The GCL and DSL Blue Jays are also both in action today.
