August 5 Minor League Report/August 6 Preview

The Jays lost at home against Baltimore and the return of Brett Lawrie turned out to be anti-climactic after he left the game with back tightness. Why can’t you just stay on the field, Brett?

Buffalo Bisons 6, Norfolk Tides 2

In an afternoon game, the Bisons wanted to play extras but managed to score unanswered runs in the top of the 11th inning to give the club a good vibe on the bus ride out of town! Raul Valdes was solid, allowing two runs over six innings and the club got five scoreless innings out of Sergio Santos, Ryan Tepera, Steve Delabar and Kyle Drabek. Brett Wallace swung the big bat yesterday, going 3/5 and finishing just short of a cycle (needing a triple). Sean Ochinko drove in three runs in the 11th, clearing the bases with a double, his only hit of the day while Jonathan Diaz was 2/5 with a double and a walk and Kevin Nolan was 2/6 with an RBI.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 7, Erie Sea Wolves 4

Casey Lawrence had a solid start, scattering 11 hits over seven innings and allowing four runs for the Fisher Cats. Jon Berti was 2/5 with two doubles, Andy Burns was 2/5 with a triple and Cory Aldridge was 2/5 with two RBI. Dalton Pompey was back in the lineup, going 1/4 with a walk, a stolen base and three runs.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Lakeland Flying Tigers 3

Jeremy Gabryszwski had his first start with the D-Jays and was fairly solid, allowing only two runs over five innings on seven hits and three walks. Tony Davis allowed the third Flying Tigers run over two innings and Chad Girodo and Arik Sikula finished the game with an inning each. The bottom of the order got into the swing of things as Emilio Guerrero (2/2, R), Peter Mooney (2/4, BB, RBI), Gustavo Pierre (2/5), Shane Opitz (2/5, 2 R) and Jorge Saez (2/3, 2B, BB, R, 2 RBI) each had two hits. Christian Lopes, batting in the leadoff slot, drove in two runs, going 1/4 with a triple and a walk.

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Fort Wayne TinCaps 7

In another debut, Miguel Castro made his MWL debut and showed both positive and negative signs. He went four innings, gave up only three hits and one walk but two of those hits were home runs and the TinCaps managed to tally five runs. Castro struck out five over those four innings, however. Matt Dermody threw two scoreless innings and Jimmy Cordero allowed two hits in his inning while Roberto Espinosa gave up two runs in the bottom of the eighth. The Lugnuts had eight hits including two each from Mitch Nay (2/4, 2B), Dawel Lugo (2/4) and Jason Leblebijian (2/4, 2B, RBI).

Vancouver Canadians: Scheduled Off Day

Bluefield Blue Jays 7, Burlington Royals 4

Lydell Moseby had his best day as a professional, going 3/5 with two home runs, three runs and three RBI to help the Blue Jays cap another win against the Burlington Royals. Josh Almonte had another two hits and is now hitting .316 while Trent Miller was 2/5 with a double and an RBI. Conner Greene was decent on the mound, allowing three runs over six innings while Carlos Ramirez struggled with his control, allowing three walks and two hits (and one unearned run) over two innings.

Player of the Game: Lydell Moseby

GCL Blue Jays 0, GCL Yankees2 2

The Blue Jays only got four hits (one each from Deiferson Barreto, Juan Kelly, Freddy ROdriguez and Angel Gomez) but the pitching was very solid. The Jays got excellent outings from two 2014 draft picks, getting four scoreless innings with only two hits and six strikeouts from second rounder Sean Reid-Foley and three innings of three-hit ball from Nick Wells.

DSL Blue Jays 12, DSL Tigers 13

Rodrigo Orozco went deep in this slugfest for the Blue Jays (2/5, 2 BB, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) and Jesus Severino (2/5, 2 R, BB), Enmanuel Moreta (2/6, 2B, 3B, RBI, 2 R), Bryan Lizardo (2/5, 3B), Miguel Almonte (2/5, 2B, 3 R, RBI, BB) and Manuel Herazo (3/6, R, 2 2B, 3 RBI) all had multi-hit games. Herazo, the catcher, also had three errors and a passed ball. I would talk about the pitching but, well, I’d rather stick to the positive.

It’s going to be lefty John Anderson going for the Fisher Cats (despite it not being listed on MiLB TV) at 7:05 PM against the Erie Sea Wolves.

Dunedin Blue Jays (67-47)

Roberto Osuna makes another start for the Dunedin Blue Jays as he continues to come back from Tommy John surgery last year. He’ll face the Lakeland Flying Tigers at 6:30 PM.

Lansing Lugnuts (51-62)

Another Vancouver Canadians call-up, Starlyn Suriel goes for the Lugnuts as they continue their series against the Fort Wayne TinCaps at 12:05 PM ET.

Vancouver Canadians (29-20)

The Vancouver Canadians are off for the All-Star Break.
