It was a lighter day for the Blue Jays’ system, starting at the top with an off day for the big club. The minor league teams only managed to pull out two wins overall.

Buffalo Bisons 7, Norfolk Tides 4

P.J. Walters was very good and Adron Chambers went deep to help the Bisons to their win. Walters threw six innings of one-run ball and Ryan Tepera and Bobby Korecky added some strong relief. Rob Rasmussen was tagged for three runs in 1 1/3 innings. Chambers was 3/5 with the home run while Kevin Pillar also contributed three hits including two doubles. Brett Wallace, Kevin Nolan and Jared Goedert also had two hits each.

Player of the Game: P.J. Walters and Adron Chambers

New Hampshire Fisher Cats: Scheduled Off Day

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Palm Beach Cardinals 5

Griffin Murphy had a rare bad outing for the D-Jays, wasting an excellent start by Matt Boyd who went seven innings, allowing just one run on three hits and striking out eight. Murphy allowed four more runs over two innings. Ian Parmley had two of the club’s seven hits and added a stolen base.

Player of the Game: Matt Boyd

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Fort Wayne TinCaps 4

Although they were in a close game, the Lugnuts couldn’t overcome a small deficit to come out with a win. Brad Allen had a (mostly) strong start, racking up eight strikeouts in six innings but allowed two home runs and the third run he surrendered in the sixth inning allowed Fort Wayne to tie it up. Francisco Gracesqui allowed the winning run in the seventh. Mitch Nay had two hits and a stolen base and David Harris had a triple and Dickie Joe Thon a double (before leaving the game).

Player of the Game: Mitch Nay and Brad Allen

Vancouver Canadians: Scheduled Off Day

Bluefield Blue Jays 11, Burlington Royals 7

The Blue Jays hung in there, scoring three in the eighth and one in the ninth to tie it before getting a run in the 10th and four more in the 12th to secure a win over Burlington. Francisco Rios started but allowed six runs over his 4 1/3 innings but Matt Smoral is continuing to show the reasons why he was drafted so highly. Smoral allowed only one hit (but three walks) over 4 1/3 innings, striking out six. Rowdy Tellez and Josh Almonte were the offensive heroes, each slugging three hits with Tellez adding a double and driving in three. Richard Urena was 2/7 and Rolando Segovia was 1/4 with a home run and two doubles.

Player of the Game: Rowdy Tellez and Matt Smoral

GCL Blue Jays 2, GCL Yankees2 3

The GCL Jays lost a close one to the Yankees2 team. Hansel Rodriguez started and allowed a run in two innings but Angel Perdomo was excellent, striking out eight in four scoreless innings. The club only had six hits including a home run from Edwin Fuentes who drove in both of the club’s runs.

Player of the Game: Angel Perdomo and Edwin Fuentes

DSL Blue Jays 5, DSL Tigers 7

Kelyn Jose showed flashes of excellent, striking out eight batters over four innings but giving up two unearned runs on two hits and three walks. The Blue Jays had six hits and two of them (from Miguel Almonte and Luis Dominguez) were doubles.

Player of the Game: Kelyn Jose

It’s getaway day in Norfolk as the Bisons send Raul Valdes to the mound for a 12:05 PM start on MiLB TV.

Casey Lawrence is scheduled to pitch for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats as they head to Erie, Pennsylvania to take on the Sea Wolves at 7:05 PM on MiLB TV.

Jeremy Gabryszwski makes his Dunedin debut as the Blue Jays travel to Lakeland to face the Flying Tigers at 6:30 PM.

Lansing Lugnuts (51-61)

In a humourous mistake, Jeremy Gabryszwski is scheduled to pitch both for Dunedin and Lansing today but I have it on good authority that Dominican phenom Miguel Castro is going to make his Midwest League debut today with the Lugnuts at 7:05 PM in Fort Wayne.

Vancouver Canadians (29-20)

The Vancouver Canadians are off for the All-Star Break.

Bluefield Blue Jays (21-24)
