August 27, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

In five games that were played by the Blue Jays’ minor league clubs, the affiliates won two and lost three.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Rochester Red Wings 4

The Buffalo Bisons got out to an early lead over the Rochester Red Wings but couldn’t hold it as the Red Winds scored two in the bottom of the seventh to win 4-3. Chris Rowley was back on the mound in Buffalo after his three starts in the major leagues and went seven innings, giving up all four runs but only two were earned. He allowed eight hits and one walk with three strikeouts while getting eight groundouts to just four flyouts. Mike Bolsinger walked one in the eighth, racking up one strikeout.

Rowdy Tellez continued his strong August, going 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run while Shane Opitz was 2/3 with a home run and two RBI.

Roster Notes: Joe Biagini was recalled to the Blue Jays.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Hartford Yard Goats 2

 

Jon Harris had a strong start for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats leading the club to a 4-2 victory over the Hartford  Yard Goats. Harris went seven innings, giving up two runs on just four hits and one walk with eight strikeouts. Kender Villegas allowed two hits in the eighth, striking out two and Justin Shafer earned the save with a 1-2-3 ninth, striking out one.

Emilio Guerrero had a pair of hits including a triple and scored a run while Jonathan Davis was 1/2 with a walk, a run, a sac bunt and an outfield assist. Anthony Alford was 1/4 with a double and an RBI and Alex Monsalve was 1/2 with a walk, an RBI and a run.

Dunedin Blue Jays, Tampa Yankees

 

Game cancelled due to rain.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Fort Wayne TinCaps 1

 

Juliandry Higuera

The Lansing Lugnuts ended their four-game losing streak with a 5-1 win over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. Juliandry Higuera had a strong start, going five innings and allowing just one unearned run on six hits with five strikeouts. Yonardo Herdenez allowed just one hit in three innings, striking out two and Miguel Burgos finished the game with a scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out one.

Yeltsin Gudino was 3/4 with an RBI while David Jacob was 2/4 with a double, an RBI and a run. Kevin Vicuna drove in two, going 1/4 iwth a double and Rodrigo Orozco was on base three times, going 1/2 with two walks and a run. Josh Palacios was on base twice with a single and a walk, scoring a run.

Roster Notes: Denis Diaz was placed on the 7-day DL and Bobby Eveld was called up to Lansing from the GCL.

 

Vancouver Canadians 1, Boise Hawks 9

 

The Vancouver Canadianstook a tough loss, getting hammered by the Boise Hawks 9-1, allowing 17 hits in the loss. Jose Espada took the brunt of the damage, allowing eight runs (six earned) on eight hits (including a home run) and two walks with four strikeouts in four innings. Marcus Reyes gave up six hits but just one run through three innings, striking out two. Orlando Pascual learned that he shared the club’s Pitcher of the Year award and allowed two hits and a walk with three strikeouts over his inning of relief and Grayson Huffman gave up a hit in the ninth.

Kacy Clemens was, pretty much, the Canadians’ offense, going 3/4 with two doubles, a home run, an RBI and a run after being named the club’s Offensive Player of the Year. Samad Taylor was 2/4.

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Danville Braves 5

 

The Bluefield Blue Jays lost to the Danville Braves 5-1 on Sunday. The club had just three hits including two singles and a run from Yorman Rodriguez and a double and two walks, with an RBI from Ryan Noda.

Elio SIlva threw five strong innings for the Blue Jays, giving up a run on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. Tyler Olander allowed three runs (one earned) over two innings and Kelyn Jose allowed another run on two hits and two walks over two innings.
