The top three teams in the Blue Jays organization all came up with wins but it was still just a 4-3 day for the Jays’ farm.

 

Buffalo Bisons 4, Lehigh Valley IronPigs 3

 

The Buffalo Bisons must have been glad to be home as they snapped a losing streak while visiting the Gwinnett Braves and beat the Lehigh Valley IronPigs 4-3. Scott Diamond won to push his record to 9-13 with six innings of one-run, six-hit, four-walk ball, striking out five. Dustin Antolin got into trouble in the seventh allowing two runs over 2/3 of an inning before Danny Barnes came in to save the day, racking up four more strikeouts and giving up just one hit in 2 1/3 innings to earn his fifth save.

Darrell Ceciliani drove in three of the Bisons’ runs with a triple in the bottom of the fifth inning while Matt Dominguez was 2/4 and drove in the Herd’s other run. Dalton Pompey was on base three times with a single and two walks and he scored a run and Jio Mier was 2/3 with a run.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 5, Reading Fightin Phils 2

 

Three New Hampshire Fisher Cats combined for all but one of their hits and the signing of John Straka out of the independent leagues looked brilliant on Friday night as the Fisher Cats beat the Reading Fightin Phils 5-2. Straka allowed only three hits and a walk while striking out eight over 5 1/3 innings before giving way for Murphy Smith who finished the sixth and pitched the seventh, going 1 2/3 innings and striking out two. John Anderson came in for an uneventful eighth before giving up a two-run home run in the ninth, striking out two over 1 1/3 innings before Chris Smith came on to save his 15th game with 2/3 of an inning, walking one, allowing a hit and striking out two.

On the offensive side, Christian Lopes was 3/5 with two runs while Rowdy Tellez had the big blast, a solo home run in the eighth, adding a double and a single with a walk, two RBI and two runs. Jason Leblebijian was 2/4 with two doubles and an RBI.

Dunedin Blue Jays 4, Lakeland Flying Tigers 1

 

With just six hits, the Dunedin Blue Jays got the win thanks to an outstanding performance by starting pitcher Brad Allen. Allen went 6 1/3 innings and allowed only two hits and two walks with eight strikeouts to go to 5-6 on the season. Chris Rowley got the save, his first, throwing 2 2/3 innings and giving up a solo home run among three hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

Newly promoted John La Prise was 2/3 for the Blue Jays while Jorge Flores was 2/3 with a walk, two runs, two stolen bases and an RBI. Anthony Alford was a presence on the basepaths, going 1/2 with an RBI but walked three times and stole a base.

Roster Notes: Michael De La Cruz was placed on the 7-day DL and Mike Reeves was activated while John La Prise was promoted from Lansing.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 0, Lake County Captains 3

 

Ryan Borucki, who has had his workload eased as the season wears on, pitched more than well enough to win but the bullpen gave up three runs while the offense sputtered in a 3-0 loss to the Lake County Captains. Borucki needed only 61 pitches (48 strikes) to get through five innings, allowing just three hits and didn’t walk anyone while striking out nine. Tayler Saucedo relieved him and gave up three runs on five hits and a walk over 1 2/3 innings before Griffin Glaude stranded two runners in the seventh and pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings.

Andrew Guillotte was 2/4 for the Lugnuts and Lane Thomas hit a double but struck out three times.

Roster Notes: Juan Tejada was sent down to the Vancouver Canadians while Carl Wise was activated off the DL and John La Prise was promoted to Dunedin. Griffin Glaude was also sent back to the Vancouver Canadians.

 

Vancouver Canadians 2, Everett AquaSox 9

 

The Vancouver Canadians lost their 40th game of the year (to 26 wins) while the Everett AquaSox clinched their division title for the second half of the Northwest League season in a 9-2 loss for the Cs. The offense was stagnant, getting five hits including a double and a walk from Rodrigo Orozco.

Andy Ravel went two innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with two strikeouts while Mike Ellenbest allowed three runs on seven hits and a walk over three innings with two strikeouts. Zach Jackson was the only pitcher who wasn’t bombed, throwing two scoreless frames, giving up just one hit and striking out three before Jackson McClelland gave up two runs in the eighth.

Player of the Game: None

Roster Notes: Griffin Glaude and Juan Tejada were sent to Vancouver from Lansing.

 

Bluefield Blue Jays 4, Pulaski Yankees 7

 

After getting beaten badly by the Bluefield Blue Jays, the Pulaski Yankees came back with a win, beating the Blue Jays 7-4 on Friday. The offense only had five hits with Reggie Pruitt going 2/4 with an RBI, a run and a stolen base. Bradley Jones was 1/4 with two RBI and Lance Jones was 1/3 with a walk and a stolen base.

Newly signed Eric Veglahn made his debut in affiliated baseball, throwing 4 2/3 innings and giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Angel Alicea took the loss, giving up three runs on three hits (including a home run) and two walks with two strikeouts in 2 1/3 innings. Chris Hall had an excellent outing, going two perfect innings and striking out one.

GCL Blue Jays 11, GCL Yankees West 8

 

The batters drove the bus for the GCL Blue Jays as they staved off playoff elimination by beating the Yankees West club 11-8 and keeping pace with the GCL Phillies who are two games ahead. Sterling Guzman led the offense, going 3/5 with two doubles and a home run, driving in five runs and scoring twice while Francisco Rodriguez was 3/5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs. Norberto Obeso, hitting .329, was 3/5 with a double and two runs. Manuel Herazo also hit a home run, going 2/3 with a walk and two RBI while Kevin Vicuna was 2/3. Chavez Young was only 1/6 with a double and an RBI but threw out two runners at first base to help out the pitching staff from center field.

Alvaro Galindo took most of the damage, allowing seven runs on seven hits and two walks over 4 1/3 innings while Ty Sterner gave up the eighth run but struck out five batters over 2 2/3 innings and earned the win. William Ouelette threw two innings of relief, picking up the save and giving up two hits and striking out a batter.
