Welcome to the half-assed, day-game-following-a-night-game edition of the minor league report. That’s right. You’re getting the “backup catcher” version today: Welcome to the Minor League Report: Jack Murphy Edition.
Buffalo Bisons 1, Norfolk Tides 2
Buffalo loses. They get just three hits including a solo home run from Andy LaRoche. Kendall Graveman made his Triple-A Debut and wasn’t bad, allowing two runs in six innings. Sergio Santos walked three batters in one inning.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Reading Fightin’ Phils 14
One word to describe this one: Ugly. Taylor Cole made his first Double-A start and really struggled with his control, even more than the four walks in 5 1/3 innings might indicate. The defense behind him didn’t do him any favours though. We did get to see Matt Newman (yes, the right-fielder) pitch an inning and he was actually the team’s second-best pitcher of the night with a blazing, 84-mph fastball. At least he didn’t balk in a run. Jon Berti had three hits including a two-RBI single while Andy Burns hit his 12th home run in a 2/4 night. Dalton Pompey was 2/4 with a “double” (the home scorekeeper was generous) and a walk and he was part of an uncontested double steal with Michael Crouse.

Dunedin Blue Jays 7, Palm Beach Cardinals 4
Starter Jesse Hernandez was okay, Jonathan Wandling and Chad Girodo were solid in relief in this win. Brett Lawrie was 2/3 as he continues rehab, as was Cole Gillespie. Nick Baligod and Kevin Patterson drove in a pair of runs each.

Lansing Lugnuts 5, Great Lakes Loons 1
Lugnuts win! If they were playing at home, you’d hear the “Go Nuts!” song played in triumph. Dickie Joe Thon and Mitch Nay had two hits apiece (Nay included a double) while Justin Atkinson had three hits and two RBI. Yes, that’s accurate. Justin Atkinson is hitting .316. Brent Powers threw five scoreless innings.

Vancouver Canadians 5, Boise Hawks 4
In another extra-inning game, the Vancouver Canadians emerged victorious thanks to a Chris Carlson double to lead off the inning followed by a couple of hit-by-pitches and an eventual game-winning walk by Ryan Metzler. Okay, not the most exciting of endings but a win’s a win. Franklin Barreto hit two solo home runs while Chris Carlson hit two doubles. Tim Locastro, Michael De La Cruz and Max Pentecost also had two hits each. Ryan Borucki had seven strikeouts in five innings, allowing just one unearned run on two hits and a walk.

Bluefield Blue Jays 12, Bristol Pirates 10
The offense was definitely the good news for this Bluefield team that has been struggling to score runs most of the season. Rowdy Tellez broke out in a big way, going 4/5 with a walk, a double and a home run with three runs and two RBI. Tellez has quietly raised his batting average to .274 after a horrible start. Richard urena was also 4/5 with a walk. Trent Miller was 2/5 with a double and a walk and james Lynch was 2/4 with a double and a walk. I won’t talk about the pitching. If you really want to know, check it out for yourself.

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Tigers 9
Jake Brentz: three innings, two runs. Daniel Rodriguez: four innings, four runs (five walks). Sean Ratcliffe: two innings, three runs. Lane Thomas had three hits including two doubles. Juan Tejada and Yeltsin Gudino had two hits apiece.

DSL Blue Jays 8, DSL Astros Orange 10
Again, this is another disastrously pitched game. Bryan Lizardo had two hits including a double.
