August 17 Minor League Report/August 18 Preview

Blue Jays lose. Yeesh. Despite a six-run first inning, Drew Hutchison wasn’t horrible, getting through seven innings and sparing the bullpen. Five runs in a game isn’t bad for the offense but they need to put it together with the pitching. Edwin hit a home run which is also good news.

Buffalo Bisons 2, Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs 3

Kendall Graveman continues to impress in Buffalo but his seven shutout innings weren’t enough as Bobby Korecky let in three runs in the bottom of the ninth to give the IronPigs a walk-off win. Ryan Goins had his second consecutive two-hit game, going 2/3 with a double and a walk.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Akron RubberDucks 2

The Fisher Cats took advantage of a strong performance from Austin Bibens-Dirkx and beat the RubberDucks by a run. Bibens-Dirkx went six strong innings, allowing only two runs on six hits with five strikeouts before handing it over to Scott Gracey for an inning and Gregory Infante for two scoreless innings. Cory Aldridge was 2/4 with two RBI while Matt Newman was 2/4.

Dunedin Blue Jays 2, Brevard County Manatees 3

Yes, this is the third game of the day with a final score of 3-2 but the D-Jays didn’t come on the right end of it. Matt Boyd only allowed one run over five innings but Chad Girodo allowed two runs over 2/3 of an inning. Wil Browning struck out three over 2 1/3 innings of one-hit relief. The offense only managed seven hits including a solo home run by L.B. Dantzler (who added a single) and two singles by Marcus Knecht.

Lansing Lugnuts 2, South Bend Silver Hawks 3

Yup. You guessed it . . . another 3-2 game and once again, the Blue Jays’ affiliate was on the wrong side of the score. The Lugnuts got solo home runs from David Harris (1/4) and Derrick Loveless (2/4) while Mitch Nay also had two hits including a double. Starlyn Suriel went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk.

Vancouver Canadians 8, Everett AquaSox 7

Okay, it wasn’t a 3-2 game but it was another one-run game in the Jays’ minor league system but this time, the Canadians were the victors. Zak Wasilewski was hit hard again, allowing six runs (five earned) with five walks in 4 2/3 innings. Jonathan Wandling, Andrew Case, Michael Kraft and Phil Kish combined to go the rest of the way with Kish allowing an unearned run (on no hits) in the ninth. Alexis Maldonado had another strong game, going 2/4 with two doubles and a walk while Chris Carlson was 2/3 with a double, two walks, two runs and an RBI. Ryan McBroom was 1/4 with a double but drove in three runs.

Player of the Game: Chris Carlson and Alexis Maldonado

Bluefield Blue Jays 1, Burlington Royals 3

Despite some good work from Conner Greene, the Blue Jays lost another one thanks to some lackluster offense. Greene went six innings, allowing just one run on four hits and no walks with two strikeouts but Tim Mayza allowed two runs in 1 1/3 innings. The club had six hits including two from Aaron Attaway.
