Rain and scheduled off days bashed their way through the Jays’ minor league schedule giving us only five games to talk about on Monday.

Dunedin Blue Jays 3, Daytona Tortugas 2

 

While they’re not running away with games, the Blue Jays won their fifth straight, giving Shane Dawson his first “W” at the High-A level. Dawson gave up two runs over 5 1/3 innings, allowing one home run among six hits and walking three while striking out five. Arik Sikula allowed just a hit and a walk over two innings while striking out two and Wil Browning struck out three in 1 2/3 innings. The offense was very quiet with just three hits (and five walks). Mike Reeves drove in two runs and Boomer Collins drove in the third.

Roster Notes: Ryan Cook was sent down to the Vancouver Canadians while Conor Fisk was promoted to Dunedin and Griffin Murphy was activated off the DL.

Lansing Lugnuts

Roster Notes: Conor Fisk was promoted to Dunedin while Lane Thomas and Jon Wandling were promoted to Lansing. Dan Jansen was sent down to the GCL for a rehab assignment.

 

 

Vancouver Canadians 2, Everett Aquasox 4

 

While the Vancouver Canadians had a 2-1 lead through seven innings, the bullpen couldn’t hold on and the game resulted in a 4-2 loss. With only five hits (including two by Ryan Hissey) in the loss. Evan Smith had a strong start, giving up two runs on eight hits and one walk over seven innings while Bob Wheatley allowed two runs (one earned) over two innings.

Roster Notes: Lane Thomas and Jon Wandling were promoted to the Lansing Lugnuts while Ryan Cook was assigned to Vancouver from the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Bluefield Blue Jays, Pulaski Yankees

GCL Blue Jays 7, GCL Pirates 5

 

In Game 1 of a double header, the GCL BLue Jays beat the Pirates 7-5. Denis Diaz struck out six in five innings, giving up three runs on six hits and one walk. Mike Estevez followed, allowing two runs in an inning while Griffin Glaude picked up his third save with a scoreless inning.

The offense clubbed 10 hits, getting two each from Lance Jones (2/3, BB, RBI), Jake Thomas (2/3, BB, 2 RBI), and Bryan Lizardo (2/4, 2B, R). Danny Jansen was 0/2 in his first rehab appearance and Juandy Mendoza was 1/2 with two walks, scoring twice.

Roster Notes: Dan Jansen was sent to the GCL for rehab, as was Scott Silverstein a few days before.

Player of the Game: Jake Thomas and Lance Jones

 

GCL Blue Jays 1, GCL Pirates 5

 

Game 2 didn’t go as well for the Blue Jays, dropping the second half 5-1 to the Pirates. The Blue Jays had only three hits including two from Roberto Lucido and a solo home run from Edward Olivares. Osman Gutierrez started and allowed all five runs (four earned) while Kelyn Jose gave up two hits in two scoreless innings of relief.

DSL Blue Jays 2, DSL Reds 1

 

Giving up only one run, the DSL Blue Jays picked up their 38th win thanks to Joel Espinal who went six innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Orlando Pascual allowed one hit and one walk over three innings to pick up the win.

Kevin Vicuna had two hits including a triple and a run while Norberto Obeso was 2/3 with two walks and Yorman Rodriguez was 2/5 with an RBI.
