The Blue Jays’ top two farm clubs came away with losses on Saturday while the lower two both won their games giving the organization a 2-2 day.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Durham Bulls 6

 

Starter Brett Oberholtzer was hit hard enough for the Durham Bulls to get out to an early lead against the Buffalo Bisons (13-8) and the Bisons couldn’t come back in a 6-3 loss. Oberholtzer went five innings and allowed four runs on six hits and three walks but only two of those runs were earned and he struck out four. Jeff Beliveau allowed a run i 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts and Wil Browning finished the game, striking out two but giving up a run in 1 1/3 innings.

Rowdy Tellez continued to show signs of breaking out of his early-season slump by going 3/4 with a double and an RBI. Alex Monsalve was 2/2 with a walk, an RBI and a run but allowed the Bulls to steal five bases. Jake Elmore was 2/4 and Christian Lopes was 1/5 with a double and an RBI.

Roster Notes: Matt Dermody was optioned back to the Buffalo Bisons and Roemon Fields was promoted to Buffalo from New Hampshire.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 3, Binghamton Rumble Ponies 7

 

A slow start by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats’ offense meant that they couldn’t catch up to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, who jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings, resulting in a 7-3 loss on Saturday. Gunnar Heidt contributed with two RBI, going 2/4 while Tim Lopes also had two hits, going 2/5 with an RBI. Emilio Guerrero was 1/2 with two walks and two runs.

Sean Reid-Foley had a rough start, allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks in just three innings, striking out two to take his second loss of the season. Alonzo Gnzalez provided two scoreless innings, walking one and giving up a hit while Justin Shafer allowed two more runs in two innings. Dusty Isaacs tossed a clean eighth inning to finish the game.

Roster Notes: Roemon Fields was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 6, Fort Myers Miracle 2

 

The Dunedin Blue Jays’ offense got revved up, accounting for 15 hits and six runs in their 6-2 win over the Fort Myers Miracle. Danny Jansen had yet another four-hit, going 4/5 with a double and two RBI, bumping his batting average up to .416 while Andrew Guillotte was 3/3 with two walks, two doubles, an RBI, two runs, a stolen base and yet another outfield assist, giving him the most complete game on the club. Cavan Biggio was 2/5 with a run and an RBI while Kevin Vicuna was 2/4 with a double and three runs.

Jordan Romano had a strong game, tossing 5 1/3 innings of two-run, seven hit ball, striking out three for the win. Ryan Cook got five outs in four batters, stranding two inherited runners from Romano and used the ground ball as a weapon. Tom Robson also pitched 1 2/3 innings but allowed a hit and three walks but didn’t give up a run. Kender Villegas game on for the final out of the game, striking out the only batter he faced and earning the save.

Roster Notes: Derrick Loveless was promoted to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Connor Panas was activated off the DL.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 5

 

Two early runs got the Lansing Lugnuts (13-10) ahead of the Bowling Green Hot Rods and a third run in the sixth inning and solid work by the bullpen secured their 3-2 victory. Three different players had two hits each including Bradley Jones (2/4) who hit a double, Nash Knight (2/4) and Yeltsin Gudino (2/4) who drove in a pair of runs. J.B. Woodman hit his second home run of the year, going 1/5 but struck out three times, and Jake Thomas continues to show the “Eye of the Tiger” taking two more walks and going 1/2 with two runs. Thomas is now hitting .308 but has .532 on-base percentage thanks to his 20 walks this season. Bo Bichette‘s hitting streak ended at 15 games with an oh-fer.

Patrick Murphy had one of the best starts for the Lugnuts’ struggling starting pitching staff this year, going 5 2/3 innings with two runs against (one earned) on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Zach Jackson (1 1/3 IP, 2 K), Philip Walby (2/3 IP, 1 H), Kirby Snead (1/3 IP) and Jackson McClelland (S, 1 IP, 1 H, 2 K) held the Hot Rods off the board to preserve the win.
