April 27, 2017 Toronto Blue Jays Minor League Report

The Buffalo Bisons played another two games on Thursday, splitting the twin bill while both the Dunedin Blue Jays and the Lansing Lugnuts picked up wins.

 

Buffalo Bisons 3, Norfolk Tides 0

 

Rowdy Tellez

The Buffalo Bisons opened their second consecutive double-header with the Norfolk Tides by taking the first game 3-0. Mike Bolsinger provided five stellar innings for The Herd, giving up just three hits with six strikeouts. John Stilson earned the save, throwing two perfect innings.

A couple of Triple-A rookies led the offense, with Rowdy Tellez driving in all three of the Bisons’ runs thanks to a home run, a single, a walk and a sac fly. Dwight Smith hit two doubles, going 3/4 with a run.

Roster Notes: Reliever Danny Barnes was recalled to Toronto to serve as the 26th man on the roster for the second game of their double header with the St. Louis Cardinals.

 

Buffalo Bisons 1, Norfolk Tides 2

 

Chad Girodo

Game two of the double header had the Bisons falling to the Norfolk Tides by a 2-1 score. The offense had just three hits including a double from Dwight Smith (to give him three doubles for the day), an RBI single by Jake Elmore and another single by Jonathan Diaz.

Chad Girodo was pressed into spot start duty by the Bisons and was very good, going three innings and allowing three hits and striking out five. Wil Browning took the loss, giving up two runs on four hits over two innings with three strikeouts while Leonel Campos finished the game, striking out the side in the sixth and walking one.

Dunedin Blue Jays 8, Charlotte Stone Crabs 7

Three home runs and a five-run ninth inning had the Dunedin Blue Jays completing a comeback win over the Charlotte Stone Crabs with a 8-7 victory. Max Pentecost hit his home run in the first inning, giving the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead but Ryan Borucki allowed three runs to the Stone Crabs in the bottom half. The Blue Jays scored single runs in the third and sixth (the latter coming from a solo home run by Danny Jansen) but then the five-run outburst in the ninth finished the game for Dunedin. Pentecost was 2/4 with a home run, a sac fly and three RBI while Jansen was 2/5 with two RBI. Matt Dean also hit a home run, his first of the year, driving in a pair and Kevin Vicuna was 2/3 with a triple. Andrew Guillotte got the job done with his bat and his arm, throwing out two runners on the bases from the outfield while going 2/5 with two runs. Lane Thomas continues to swing a hot bat, going 1/2 with a triple and two walks.

Ryan Borucki returned from the DL to throw four innings, allowing five runs (three earned on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Josh DeGraaf added two innings, giving up a run on two hits with two strikeouts while Danny Young threw a scoreless seventh. Kender Villegas finished the game with two innings, allowing a solo home run among three hits with two strikeouts for the win.

Roster Notes: Ryan Borucki was activated off the 7-day DL and Jared Carkuff was sent to extended spring training.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 5, South Bend Cubs 1

 

The Lansing Lugnuts returned to the road, taking on the Bowling Green Hot Rods in the opener of their series in Kentucky and came away with a 5-1 win. Starter Andy Ravel notched his second win, going seven strong innings, allowing just one run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts. Daniel Lietz finished the game, throwing the final two innings and retiring all six batters he faced with one strikeout.

Vladimir Guerrero, Jr.  was 2/4 with a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBI while Bradley Jones drove in two with two singles. Yeltsin Gudino also had two singles and a run while Joshua Palacios was on base twice with a double and a walk, driving in a run and scoring once.

Roster Notes: RHP Geno Encina was activated following his suspension and LHP Daniel Lietz was activated off the DL and Chris Hall was sent to extended spring training.
