The Blue Jays’ affiliates struggled on Tuesday night, eking out only one win and getting no-hit in one game and giving up six home runs in another.

 

Buffalo Bisons 7, Rochester Red Wings 8

 

The Buffalo Bisons scored three runs in an inning twice but it wasn’t enough either time as they fell to the Rochester Red Wings 8-7 in 14 innings on Tuesday. The Herd, after falling behind 2-1, scored three times in the bottom of the seventh but couldn’t hold the lead, with David Aardsma getting charged with two runs in the ninth inning, allowing the Red Wings to tie up the score. Then, in the 14th inning, Rochester got four runs in the top half with the Bisons scoring three and failing to make up the difference in the bottom. Wade LeBlanc had another strong start for Buffalo, throwing six innings of two-run ball, allowing eight hits and one walk with six strikeouts before making way, with the lead, for Chad Jenkins who pitched 2/3 of an inning, walking two and striking out one. Chad Girodo inherited two runners and stranded both, throwing an inning and allowing a hit. Aardsma came in in the eighth and got the Herd out of that inning but gave up two runs in ninth, getting charged with those runs on three hits and a walk with a strikeout in 2/3 of an inning. Bobby Korecky had a great game, throwing 3 2/3 innings and allowing only one walk with five strikeouts before Ben Rowen threw two innings, allowing all four runs in the 14th.

The offense scored seven times, getting three hits and two RBI from Domonic Brown, a home run among two hits and two RBI from Jesus Montero, a single, a double and a walk from Junior Lake and a solo home run from Alexi Casilla. Andy Burns had a pair of hits, a pair of walks and a stolen base. Montero’s home run came in the bottom of the 14th and helped the Bisons get close in a comeback attempt.

Roster Notes: Drew Hutchison was optioned back to Buffalo while Matt Dominguez was promoted to Toronto and Casey Lawrence was sent down to New Hampshire.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 0, Trenton Thunder 4

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats took their place in history on Tuesday as they were no-hit by Ronald Herrera and Jonathan Holder, falling 4-0. John Anderson was on the mound for the Fisher Cats, throwing four innings and allowing four runs on four hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Brady Dragmire struck out three in his two innings, allowing just a hit and a walk while Chris Smith also gave up a hit and a walk with four strikeouts over two innings. The batters only had two walks, one each from Jon Berti (who was caught stealing) and Rowdy Tellez.

Roster Notes: Casey Lawrence returned to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats from Buffalo and Shane Dawson was put on the DL retroactive to April 24.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 5, Tampa Yankees 8

 

The Tampa Yankees feasted on the Dunedin Blue Jays’ pitching, hitting six home runs in an 11-5 win over the home Jays. Ryan Borucki surrendered four of those home runs, allowing six runs in total on seven hits and two walks with three strikeouts in just 2 2/3 innings. Carlos Ramirez gave up the fifth homer for the Yankess, allowing two runs on five hits and no walks in 2 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. Tim Mayza was the only pitcher who was unscathed by the long ball, allowing only a hit and a walk in two innings, striking out two while Chris Rowley surrendered the final three Tampa runs, giving up a home run among five hits with three strikeouts.

The D-Jays had 10 hits collectively, getting two from Michael Bourn (2/5, 2B, 2 RBI), Jonathan Davis (2/3, 2B, BB, SB, R), Jason Leblebijian (2/4, 2B, R) and Danny Jansen (2/3, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB).

Lansing Lugnuts 1, Beloit Snappers 0

 

The Lansing Lugnuts were locked in a pitching duel with the Beloit Snappers but finally pushed a runner across home plate in the top of the ninth to hold on with the Blue Jays’ affiliates lone win of the night. Francisco Rios was dominant, allowing only three hits and a walk in 5 2/3 innings while striking out nine. Josh DeGraaf went 2 1/3 innings to earn the win, facing the minimum and striking out two while Colton Turner shut down the Snappers in the ninth to earn the save with one strikeout.

The hitters only had six hits, getting a double from Gunnar Heidt (who added two walks but was caught stealing for the first time this season) and two singles from Carl Wise. Heidt scored the only run on a base hit by Jake Anderson.

Roster Notes: Eva Smith was assigned to extended spring training while Gustavo Pierre was assigned to Lansing.
