The Blue Jays’ affiliates were 2-2 on Wednesday, getting one win and one loss in extra innings.

 

Buffalo Bisons 5, Norfolk Tides 9

 

Jarrett Grube wasn’t able to continue his dominance in the International League as the Buffalo Bisons fell to the Norfolk Tides by a 9-5 score on Wednesday. Grube was charged with eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks over four innings, striking out three. Luis Santos, newly promoted from New Hampshire, tossed three strong innings in his Buffalo debut, allowing two hits and one walk while striking out three. John Stilson gave up the final Norfolk run, throwing two innings but struck out four.

Dwight Smith, Jr. continues to swing a hot bat, going 4/4 with a walk, two RBI, a run and an outfield assist. Ian Parmley, playing center field, was 3/4 with a double and two runs. Christian Lopes also added a pair of hits while Mike Ohlman was 1/4 with a double, a walk and an RBI.

Player of the Game: Dwight Smith, Jr.

Roster Notes: Luis Santos was promoted from New Hampshire with Wil Browning going on the temporarily inactive list.

 

 

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 4, Trenton Thunder 2

 

The New Hampshire Fisher Cats evened their record at 6-6 by holding on for a 4-2, extra-innings win against the Trenton Thunder. Emilio Guerrero started the 11th-inning rally by singling to right field and was moved over to second on a Gunnar Heidt sac bunt. After an intentional walk to Reese McGuire and a Jonathan Davis strikeout, Jonathan Diaz walked, loading the bases for Roemon Fields who drove in two with a single. Ryan McBroom had a big game, going 3/5 with a single, a double and a home run, driving in two while Diaz had the only other multi-hit game for the Fisher Cats, going 2/3 with two walks. Richard Urena and Anthony Alford were both 1/5 with a double.

Conner Greene made the start and gave up two runs in the first inning, but only one more hit (for three total) for the rest of his 6 2/3 innings, walking only two and striking out five. Tim Mayza held the Thunder to just one hit through 2 1/3 innings, striking out three and Jose Fernandez got the win, throwing two perfect innings.

Roster Notes: Luis Santos was promoted to the Buffalo Bisons and Justin Shafer was promoted to New Hampshire from Dunedin to take his place.

 

Dunedin Blue Jays 9, St. Lucie Mets 1

 

The bats unloaded, scoring nine runs on 15 hits as the Dunedin Blue Jays defeated the St. Lucie Mets 9-1 to even their record at 7-7. Andrew Guillotte exploded, missing the cycle by a triple as he hit two singles, a double and a home run, driving in a run and scoring three times. Lourdes Gurriel made his season debut, going 1/2 with a double, a run and an RBI but came out of the game after two innings. Cavan Biggio was 2/5 with a double, a triple, an RBI and two runs and Max Pentecost was 2/4 with a walk, Juan Kelly added two singles and Matt Dean was 2/4 with a double and two RBI. Lane Thomas was 1/3 with a double and a sac fly, driving in two runs.

Angel Perdomo had his best outing of the season, striking out seven batters in five innings, giving up one run on six hits and a walk. Adonys Cardona struck out three in two innings, giving up a hit and a walk and Jared Carkuff threw the final two innings, allowing a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

Player of the Game: Andrew Guillotte

Roster Notes: Justin Shafer was promoted to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats and Jared Carkuff joined the Dunedin Blue Jays out of extended spring training. Deiferson Barreto was sent to extended spring training and Lourdes Gurriel was activated off the disabled list.

 

Lansing Lugnuts 3, Dayton Dragons 4

 

The Lansing Lugnuts (7-6) scored a run in the seventh and a run in the eighth to tie things up with the Dayton Dragons but the bullpen gave up the game as the Dragons came away with a win in the bottom of the 11th inning. Starter Mike Ellenbest had his best outing of the year, going six innings and giving up two runs on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts. Daniel Lietz allowed a run on three hits and two walks through four innings of relief to keep the Lugnuts tied through ten innings. Jackson McClelland gave up an unearned run in the 11th, allowing the leadoff batter to single, followed by a sacrifice bunt that McClelland threw away. McClelland issued an intentional walk to load the bases and that was followed by a single, scoring the game-winning run.

Bradley Jones went deep again for his fifth home run, going 2/4 with an intentional walk and two RBI. Christian Williams had two singles and Vladimir Guerrero was 2/5 with two doubles. Bo Bichette was on base twice, going 1/4 with a walk and Edward Olivares was also 1/4 with a double and a walk.

Player of the Game: Bradley Jones

Roster Notes: Patrick Murphy was placed on the 7-day DL (retroactive to April 17) and Denis Diaz was sent to Lansing from extended spring training.
